The being Cornish ‘splains alot. Just sayin’… Maybe you should be banished to Houston Texas, sans air conditioning…I’ll think about it.
MBG and swampus -y’all are gonna have to try a lot harder than that to get me to do my paper–I LIKE being called “young lady” (hasn’t happened in years). FCM -my crusts turned out way dark, too! I thought with 2 pies in the oven the cooking time was if anything increased. I took the pies out 5 minutes early and still they were dark.
Stiff today, but off to work. I am bringing in one of the pies, 'cause I’m nice that way.
WoofWaiter, I might be described as a Cornish bird, but definitely not a Cornish hen - my legs are too long! I wouldn’t make a very good roast either, I’m far too old and stringy.
Houston with no aircon? Rigs, you’ll be joining me there if you don’t get that paper done! Shame on you but at least I can gloat and tell everyone that I got my first Uni assignment sent off three weeks early for this session, it was supposed to be handed in on Monday and I posted it ages back. I hope it didn’t get lost…
Really looking forward to that painting, huh, FCM? Ya know, you could stop by after dinner tonight and get an early start! Owwww! Stop hitting me.
I’m awake, but hoping to get back to sleep soon. I, too, “slept in” since I’m normally awake around 5 and didn’t wake up till at least 6:30. But it was after midnight when I went to bed, so I’m short a few hours.
What do you do, BooFae? Just wondering.
Those appetizers sound yummy, Taters. Especially the cheesecake. How many artichoke hearts to you chop for it?
Well, hopefully back to sleep. If not, I’ll get up to fold laundry.
**dogbut ** - I love the new cartoon - it really cracked me up!! Incidentally, the one you sent me is hanging on my cube wall, right under my Ben Franklin quote - truly a place of honor!
**gt ** - actually, I don’t mind painting, and this will be pretty easy since there are no windows to work around. It’s just that it’s a big room - 15 X 40 with 14’ ceilings… although we’re just painting up 8’, then painting a band around in the dark green. I’m just being pouty because apparently this office is more important than the painting that needs to be done at home. Yeah, I know, petty, but I feel petty.
I’ll be heading to the shower shortly, then rousting the bed lump that is my spouse. We’ve got to empty the car of his crap so we can fill it with pies and my mom’s carpet cleaner. And cool whip - can’t forget the cool whip!! And I should probably have a little breakfast - I’m getting a bit of a headache already. Dang, I forgot to iron the shirt I want to wear. Better get moving…
gt and Taters the cornbread (although Jiffy Mix[sup]TM[/sup] is a corn muffin mix and therefore sweet) recipes sound nummy. They shall be added to the culinary repetoire at the swampcave.
Turkey’s in the oven (went in at five) and smelling good! Soon I am going to beautify myself and rouse somebody from bed so that he may also beautify. Guests will start arriving around eleven though one person will be here at ten to help set up stuff. Then the festivities will begin.

HAPPY THANKSGIVING DAY!!!

At the moment, a bit of everything! I work at the University of Birmingham in central admin, in the Programme Approval and Collaborations Section. Fancy title, huh?
I get involved in all sorts of things - we look after the approval process for all the new programmes that the Uni wants to teach, roughly 40-50 new ones per year. It’s done via a review panel that meets four times each academic session so there’s a huge fluffy of panic-laden activity when programmes are due for submission! I also get to produce a series of reports for the review group related to programme activity during the year, as well as looking after the programme development plans that we get in from Schools. Then there’s committees, meetings for everyone in the section, team briefings, web editing, room bookings etc.
As if I don’t have enough to fill my day, I also look after some of our collaborative students (they’re the ones who are taught off-campus but the programmes are validated and accredited by the Uni). That means printing registration details, doing ID cards, adding registration details to the student record system, putting marks onto it, hassling people about graduations etc. And of course we get to help out at all the graduation ceremonies too.
So, that’s pretty much what takes up my time…apart from playing around on here and emailing my friends when the boredom levels get too high!
Mornin’ and happy Pre-Friday (to those of us who aren’t in a location to be celebrating turkey day – for the rest of you, a nice jog to work off some of that massive plate of turkey 'n fixin’s might be in order)
Okay, so what I missed here…
Happy Birthday LibraryFeline!
…and…
Happy 'Murikan Turkey Day!
You know the only problem I have with Thanksgiving in the US? All of the OEMs we act as a Canadian distributor for are closed. That means if I need breakdowns for new models or tech support we can’t provide or ETAs on factory backordered parts, I can’t because no one’s in the office. Naturally this means that this is the week I get bombarded with exactly those type of questions from our customers.
Just a quickie to say thanks for all the wonderful Birthday wishes.
I’m off to make the Green Bean Caaserole. I did the Broccoli Souffle yesterday.
Have a good Thanksgiving to all the American Dopers.
Sorry you have to pick up the slack, *Mindfield. Maybe someone will save you some pumpkin pie.
Mmmm. Punkin pie. And real whipped cream. Come to think of it, I could really go for a nice turkey sammich, too. Why did we have to go and have thanksgiving in October?
And Happy Turkey Day, everyone!
Blergh. Couldn’t fall asleep until six, but it was the first time in weeks. I got up at nine. Things to do, and I don’t feel really crummy.
BooFae, want to join my World of Warcraft Widows Guild? So far it’s got me and QD in it.
Up early here to do the last minute grocery run, vacuum/sweep, prepare young tom for his one way trip into the oven later and start the morning bloodys!
Happy Thanksgiving Football and Eating Too Much All Day,Day!!!
rosie, the main ingredient in Accent seems to be MSG. You know, I never looked at the ingredients before today. Yeesh. Hubby prefers to use the Accent over salt substitute at the dinner table.
The weather is pretty crappy here. That’s not surprising. At least I don’t have to try and travel over the mountain passes. That would be awful.
I’ll have to get myself cleaned up soon, a will the rest of the family. We need to leave here NLT 10:30.
Happy Birthday, BiblioCat! And Happy Thanksgiving to all the 'Merican Dopers!
I still have a black eye - it looks worse than it did yesterday but doesn’t hurt quite as bad, unless I forget and do something stupid like rub my eye. Not a good idea. I wonder if it is itching because it is healing?
I guess there will be turkey at some point during the day. I’m mostly looking forward to the game tonight - we’re playing last years Champions for the first time this season.
I think Magic must smell turkey - I’ve had to chase him three times already this morning.
Mr. SCL was snoring like a werewolf with a head cold last night - woke me up every two hours. I see a nap this afternoon…
HAPPY BIRTHDAY, BibKitty!
and Happy Thanksgiving everyone (even if you’re celebrating it vicariously…)
Sounds like an interesting job, Boo.
I think we should all come along on the search for better underwear, WoW widows or not. I’m sure no one would notice. Although it might not ensure that QD replaces her underwear on a regular basis.
I’ve put away most of the laundry, made the traditional last minute run to the grocery for the THING I FORGOT. Tripped over the rolls I really wanted to buy, so now I’ll have rolls in the freezer for a while. That’s OK, I’ll just make more tortas (Mexican subs) than I usually do. They’re small rolls, so they’ll be really small tortas, but just as good, I’m sure.
Spinach dip is done and in the fridge. I’m going to finish putting away laundry and throw the last load in the washer. Then it’s out to do some gardening… Need to rake and do some general clean-up. Also, I promised the friend who is hosting our Thanksgiving celebration some holly, so I better go attack the bush. Wonder if this is the one Taters dreamed about.
