How I Feel Aboit The US These Days

Well, if it was at the same time I’d be pretty impressed. (Link safe for work.)

long time reader of the board, so you’re not telling me anything new. This is not, to me anyway, another Trump sucks thread. As I said, he’ll be gone one way or the other in a few years, but the US will always be stained by having voted him in, just as we are by things like the Japanese internment.

And if a woman wants to suck off the whole football team more power too her. I didn’t call the hypothetical woman a slut, I said I could never look at her the same way.

Answer my question: would you castigate a woman if she had a different view of a man after she learned a potential partner had slept with a a few dozen women over a weekend?

You chose a poor analogy.

Instead of implying that the reason that you can’t look at her the same way against is because she engaged in sexual behavior that you feel is immoral, how about other behavior that is a bit more universally considered immoral.

Say, one day, she casually mentions that when she goes into a Mcdonald’s, she breaks the lock on the Ronald Mcdonald house charity collection, and steals the money.

Or she mentions that one of her hobbies is clubbing baby seals, or homeless people.

Or she invites you to her dog fighting ring.

Maybe with a new found respect? I didn’t get that vibe from your OP.

Anyway, I’d have a lot more respect for that young woman than I would if she had voted for Trump. That would be disgusting.

I didn’t say the hypothetical behavior was immoral, just something that would forever color my opinion of someone. But yes, your analogies are better. I was looking for something more than “pronouncing the T in often” which also changes my view of someone (if they are a native speaker).

Agreed

That’s a good point, because no one has brought that up here before.

It’s a stupid analogy and a stupid question.

Other than that, carry on!

Thank you for your petmission, it means the world to me.

He gave you the petmission?

Dammit John, that was mine.

Your petmission, if you should choose to accept it…

We fierce, man. We so fierce.

We’re all aboit the petmission.

it was this guy’s first: ace ventura - Google Search

It’s a fiercely anti-ignorance message board. Opposing Trump is just one inevitable consequence.

Yes, I’m familiar with the feeling you’re describing. Although your analogy doesn’t work for me. I could love and respect the girl next door and applaud her for sucking off the whole football team (especially if it were something she wanted to do for her own reasons)… but that’s tangential…

I became disillusioned with America (political system and culture alike) as a young adult. Became more optimistic about slow change and meaningful progress and all that through my 30s 40s and 50s. Now I’m sort of back in the disillusioned zone.

In particular I doubt that I’ll ever view the Presidency itself as having any inherent dignity and gravitas.

Baby seals is good.

You can’t fight The Seether.

America, like every other nation or the slutty girl next door, is complex and has its noxious elements which defy the airbrush. The closer you look, the more you know, the less simple it becomes.

Or clubbing baby seals with homeless people.

I’d give her mad props (do the kids still say “mad props”) if she could go back in time and club baby Seal–then we wouldn’t be subjected to that grave-rose kissing song.

Just keep trusting in evolution. It takes a long time, but have patience. Long game. Long, long game.

Sorry, but as ripostes go “you obviously care because you just spent 30 seconds or less typing a two-word reply” is the lamest of the lame.

My interpretation of jz78817’s post is simply this: why should anyone else be concerned about how you (the OP) “look at” the United States? I dislike Trump and his idiot voters as much as the next guy, and probably more than most, but I don’t pretend that this has any practical effect on anything.
