How is on base %age affected by a FC?

Man on first, no out. Batter hits a ground ball that goes short to second to first. Guy’s out at second but the batter beats the throw to first. What happens to his on base percentage? Goes up because…he made it to first? Stays the same because…it’s not an official at bat? Other?

The OBP would go down. The FC is considered an at-bat but not successfully reaching base

On base percentage is
(hits + walks + hit by pitcher)/(at bats + walks + Hit by pitcher + sacrifice flies)

and a fielder’s choice does count as an at bat.

FC is most definitely an official at Bat.

The only way to complete your bat, and not get an Official at Bat, is Base on Balls, HBP, Sacrifice or Catcher’s Interference.

Ok. So that Adam Greenberg, who got hit in the head on his first pitch in the majors did not have a 1.000 OBP, because HBP is not an official at bat. Great. That answers a different question I’ve had for a while. Thanks.

Yes, he did have a 1.000 OBP. From above:

(hits + walks + hit by pitcher)/(at bats + walks + Hit by pitcher + sacrifice flies)
