How long will refrigerated cheesecake be good for?

I have a small chocolate marble cheesecake that I bought at a local grocery store some time in the last month. If I had to guess, I would say that it has got to be at least a month old.

I ate about half of the cheesecake, and placed the rest in the fridge at work. It got pushed to the back, and I discovered it again today. It still looks fine, and there is no mold or any other visible signs of age on it. It has been stored in a clear plastic cheesecake container, which snaps at the front. The remains of the cheesecake smell fine, and a precursory tasting indicates that it still tastes fine.

So, why has my cheesecake held up so well? Most foods that stay in the work fridge for more than a month end up moldy and stinky. Is cheesecake somehow able to survive for long periods of time if it is kept cold? Should I be afraid to eat the rest of my mini cheesecake?

It still tastes good and I am rather hungry…

Cheesecake has never lasted that long in my fridge…

Oh, it’s the work fridge. I wouldn’t eat it. If your co-workers or the cleaning crew haven’t stolen it already it is not edible.

Well, I just ate the rest of the cheesecake. It wasn’t bad, however the crust was a little hard to scrape off the cardboard on which it was placed.

At this point I am hoping that I have not made a foolish decision.

Rip?

In my house, it depends on whether or not the kids are home from school yet.

You shouldn’t eat it.

What’s that?

Oh.

Good luck!
