I have a small chocolate marble cheesecake that I bought at a local grocery store some time in the last month. If I had to guess, I would say that it has got to be at least a month old.
I ate about half of the cheesecake, and placed the rest in the fridge at work. It got pushed to the back, and I discovered it again today. It still looks fine, and there is no mold or any other visible signs of age on it. It has been stored in a clear plastic cheesecake container, which snaps at the front. The remains of the cheesecake smell fine, and a precursory tasting indicates that it still tastes fine.
So, why has my cheesecake held up so well? Most foods that stay in the work fridge for more than a month end up moldy and stinky. Is cheesecake somehow able to survive for long periods of time if it is kept cold? Should I be afraid to eat the rest of my mini cheesecake?
It still tastes good and I am rather hungry…
