How many cars have you owned?

I’m 42 and I’ve owned one car (a Toyota). That was a long time ago. I sold it in 1986. I haven’t owned one since.

Started off with a 1976 Malibu Classic; also owned a 1971 Fiat 124 Sport during that time.
I used a motorcycle (Kawi 440LTD) for exclusive transportation until I purchased a 1987 Escort.
It died an ugly death, as did the Sabre 1100 that replaced it. Ended up on a Supermagna for a few years, then to a regular 1985 Honda Magna 700.
Finally got another car (Mazda MX-6).
Traded it for an Acura CL (piece o’crap)
Traded THAT for a BMW 330Ci, which I loved but ate me out of house and home.
Got a Subaru Inpreza Sport wagon, then
Traded it for the Subaru 3.0 that I have now

1986 Mustang, bought in 1990, kept it until 1996.
1996 Escort, still own it.
1967 Mustang, bought in 1997 or so, lost it in divorce.
1995 Mustang, bought in 1997 or so, was ex-wife’s.
2005 Subaru Outback, bought new, this is the new wife’s car.
1978 Ford F-150, bought just this year, ment to be a work truck.

1996 Honda Shadow, bought in 1998, just sold it this year.
2000 Kawasaki Concours, bought in 1999, still have it.

Eight cars:

1971 Volkswagen Super Beetle convertible
1981 Pontiac Grand Prix
Another 1981 Pontiac Grand Prix
1983 Toyota light pickup
1975 Mercedes 280
1985.5 Porsche 944
2002 Chevy Corvette convertible
2005 Dodge Ram 1500 Quad Cab pickup

I’m 34, and the one thing I’ve learned over the years about cars is that it’s very difficult to let the convertibles go, even when they become impractical.

Hmmm… 31 yrs old, 7 cars. Includes the year I didn’t get to drive because I was overseas.
1986 Chevy Caprice (got it from my brother, and still the best car EVER!)
198Something Plymouth Reliant - it ran on no oil.
1985 Honda CRX (died due to bad repair facility forgetting to adjust timing belt at 199,985 miles)
1986 Ford Pickup. Biggest piece of shit ever.
1993 Saturn SL2 - Sold to friend’s girlfriend, who still has the thing running at 250K miles.
1993 Jeep Grand Cherokee - great Jeep. Handled snow and rain like a champ. Only 1 repair ever on the car, and that was an easy one.
2003 Jeep Liberty - good jeep, shitty tires. So bad that I am just trying to make it until spring so I can replace all 5 with BFGs

Ahhh, a drive down Memory Lane…

1966 Chevy Impala
197? Volvo
1973 Buick Riviera
197? Toyota Celica
1980 Kawasaki Z-1 Classic
1978 Datsun 280 Z
1969 Chevy Corvette
1984 Volvo 240 GL
1988 Nizzan 280 Z
1988 Jeep Cherokee
1988 Mercedes 560 SL
1997 Lexus 450 LX
2004 Porsche Cayenne S

12 cars, 1 motorcycle over 31 years.

I’m 34 (until this Friday)

1986 Chrysler Lebaron GTS #1 - Owned it for about a month in the fall of '91. Was totalled in a head-on collision with an IH Scout.
1986 Chrysler Lebaron GTS #2 - This one lasted until the Spring of '95. I loved this car. I could get all my stuff from my dorm room in one trip.
1995 Buick Skylark - A slightly used corporate vehicle that I got the GM discount on. Drove this one to death for about 140K miles.
199? Chevy Cavalier - This was my wife’s car when we got married.
2001 Chevy Cavalier - Brand new to replace her old one
2001 Pontiac Aztek #1 - Say what you will about the looks, this is my favorite vehicle of all time. Had to sell it in 2003 when I was out of work for a long time.
1997 Ford Taurus - Nice car that my sister sold us cheap when we had to sell the Aztek. Unfortunately, it needed about 3x more money put in it for repairs than what it was worth in the summer of 2005.
2001 Pontiak Aztek #2 - Yes! Found a good deal on a low-mileage used one to replace the Taurus.

We still have the '01 Cavalier and the 2nd Aztek. So I’ve either owned or co-owned eight vehicles, three of which were brand new (if you count the Skylark)

I’ll be 28 in a couple of weeks and I’ve owned four cars since I got my license at 18.

1985 Toyota Camry - *(Mary Jane) * Best car I’ve ever owned. It was cute, small, had cruise control/moon roof/power everything and the back window was filled with exciting teenager-esque bumper stickers. Her previous owners had taken spectacular care of her and I drove her into the ground in two years time. Also managed to scrape her against damn near everything I parked next to for awhile (Not other cars, but alot of parking lot beams)

**1995 Saturn SL1 ** - (Meredith, also called *Green Lantern * later in life) Worst. Car. Ever. Took me 4 years to break her. I made my last car payment about 3 weeks before making the decision to pull the plug on her. Ended up selling her to an ex-boyfriend for $800 and he later abandoned her in his apartment complex’s parking lot.

**2003 Ford Focus ** - (Pele) Awesome car. I got her in 2003 and went out of my way to make sure her oil was always changed, she was always tuned up, and wasn’t making any funny noises. In late 2005 her shocks started to sound kind of weird, but I never got them looked at because she was stolen in February of this year. :frowning:

2006 Scion xB - (Pandora, often referred to as simply “Shan’s Box”) My latest road companion is awesome. She’s a great conversation starter and I think she’s cute as hell. Great mileage and alot of fun to drive.

I’ve owned two cars.
My parents bought me a piece of shit ~1985 Toyota Camry that died of a cracked engine + busted transmission a few months later.
Then I bought a 2000 Dodge Dakota. I’d like to replace it but I’m almost unemployed right now and my wife is still bitter after 7 years that I “insisted” on buying it. She’s waiting for major repairs to start happening, but it’s proving very durable.

I’m 43.

  1. 1967 Chevy Impala 4 door sedan.
  2. 1967 Camaro.
  3. 1971 Datsun 240-Z
  4. 1983 Chevy Camaro
  5. 1972 240-Z
  6. 1984 Chysler Laser POS
  7. 1994 Ford Mustang. First car ever purchased new.
  8. 1998 Ford Windstar
  9. 2000 Ford Windstar
  10. 2003 Ford Escape
  11. 2005 Saab 92-X

Somewhere in there was another 240-Z, but I can’t remember where it fit in the list.

I’m 37 and have owned (not counting the first two Civics that were in my parents’ names) 6 cars and 7 motorcycles.

In order,

1980 Honda Civic - techincally owned by my parents while I was in high school, but was mine in my mind.
1979 Honda Civic - Same as above. I loved both of the Civics and have toyed with the idea of buying another of the same vintage.
1966 Mustang - The first car I owned in my own name.
198? Mercury Tracer - Actually sold the Mustang to buy this, with the thought of needing something more reliable for my post-college move to Chicago. The Tracer died less than a year later and I bet the Mustang’s still running.
198? Toyota ? - Piece of junk bought for about $500 that lasted less than a year
1994 Honda Civic - My first new car, and it was a great one.
1993 Mazda RX-7 - Still have this car. I’ve been paying lip service to selling it for the last three years, but I can’t bring myself to do it.
2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee - My current main car when I’m in the US. Not exciting but very practical and comfortable.

For two wheeled vehicles, Honda Z50, Batavus moped, Honda scooter, Honda CM400 Custom, Honda Nighthawk 650, Kawasawki Vulcan 1500 (still have), and Suzuki 125 dirt bike (still have).

I’m 47–starting at age 18 I’ve owned:

'63 Nova station wagon–perfectly straight body, wish I still had this one.
'69 Impala
'56 two door Plymouth station wagon, “Bessie”
'67 Cougar, “Cougarrand”
'79 Toyota p/u
'80 K5 Blazer, “BlazeWhore”
'85 Sprint, bought new, “Squeeent!”
'77 Toyota p/u, “Green Weenie”
'78 Toyota p/u
'84 Honda Civic hatchback, “Faster”
'89 Chevy G-10 cargo van, “Time Bomb”
'89 Cavalier Z24, “Firefly”

Yeah, I like Toyota trucks, what of it?

My next car will be an '05 Cadillac CTS–I’ll be able to afford it around 2017 or so…

At 36 years old, I’ve had 5 cars. Not bad for 20 years of driving.

1981 Dodge Aries K car (hand me down from the parents, a money pit of repairs)
1988 Ford Festiva (my first Brand new car, 5600 off the lot. drove it for 8 years, and 180K miles, 40+mpg, a great college car, never had a problem with it, except for a lack of AC) 1992 Chevy Cavalier (hated the car from day one, I'll never buy used again, another money pit for repairs) 1998 VW golf (7.5 years, 186K miles when I got rid of it, needed too much to repair the exhaust & a slight engine leak, and I deserved a new car, another car with nearly no problems)
2005 Subaru Baja (current car/truck cross, the “Cruck” My first AWD vehicle!)

and I also have a '78 Kawasaki KZ-650SR

They were 1963 and 1965 before they got so unreliable. Still a small hole in the spun aluminum radiator was a setbac.k

12 or I3 depending on whether I count one that was won in a raffle with a ticket that I made my Dad buy. 1, 6 thru 9, 11 & 13 were bought new, others were used.

  1. '48 Chevy sedan (I won it-brand new-in a 4th of July raffle when I was very young)-nobody in family could drive so Dad sold it)

  2. '50 Ford 2-door sedan, green, stick shift (learned to drive in it, in a hilly cemetery-hand-me-down from an aunt). Added fender skirts, removed its grill, painted car with flat black spray cans.

  3. '54 Ford Victoria 2-door hardtop convertible, automatic (black with cream/green interior-a real cream puff). Added fender skirts

  4. '57 Ford Fairlane 500 2-door hardtop convertible, baby blue/cream, stick shift Two fenders crumpled when hit by in separate crashes

  5. '61 Ford Falcon 4-door sedan, light blue, automatic. Crumpled fender when hit by a car.

  6. '66 Toyota Corona 4-door sedan, light blue, Toyoglide (totalled when I was hit in rear and pushed into a Lincoln, scratching its trunk ornament)

  7. '67 Toyota Corona 2-door hardtop, tan, automatic. Traded intact.

  8. '69 Toyota Corona 2-door hardtop, bright blue. Traded intact.

  9. '70 Toyota Corona 4-door sedan, cream, automatic (kept it 10 years, drove it in every state east of the Miss. River, except WI). Towed to junkyard when timing chain broke.

  10. '81 Ford Escort wagon, green, automatic. Timing chain broke under warranty. Traded in.

  11. '90 Dodge K-car 4-door sedan, white, automatic (kept it 10 years). Fender crumpled after first 6 months when sideswiped at a stoplight in heavy fog. Traded in with #12 on #13.

  12. '95 Ford Escort wagon, bronze, automatic (tranny was screwed up.) Traded in.

  13. '00 Ford Focus wagon, dark blue, automatic. Still commuting at 46,000 miles. Won’t buy another one.

If I get another, it will be a Honda FIT, Sport Model, cosmic blue and its tag may read HAVNAFIT.

1959 Plymouth station wagon
1968 Plymouth Sport Satellite
1971 Plymouth Sport Suburban station wagon
1988 Plymouth Voyager minivan
1989 Fiat Panda
1993 Toyota Corolla
1993 Jeep Wrangler
1998 Jeep Wrangler
2001 Jeep Wrangler
2003 Honda CR-V

I’m 36. I have only owned two cars. The first car was a 1988 Toyota Corolla, which I bought in September of 1994. I drove it until April of 2001, at which time I acquired the car I have now, a 1995 Nissan Sentra. I don’t want to think about it, but I know I won’t have it forever and in a few years I’ll be saddled with making car payments once again.

1986 Nissan Pulsar - the first car I ever bought myself, I didn’t know how to drive a stick when I bought it, so I learned how in the middle of the night after a friend helped me drive it home.
1991 Nissan Sentra - stuck with Nissan after I had to donate the Pulsar to charity. My parents owned Datsuns/Nissans when I was growing up, so I had an affinity to the brand.
1993 Honda Civic - inherited from my wife after I had to donate the Sentra (on both counts, donations were because of emission issues) and she bought her Mini Cooper. Technically, I guess I “own” the Mini, too, but I don’t think of it as mine and never will.

The Civic just passed 150000 miles today and is still going strong.

I know I’m resurrecting an old thread, but I was going to start a similar one and thought it better to bring this forward again than re-post.

I’ve owned 4 cars for my own personal driving, and two more if you count jointly owned cars that were my wife’s for her day to day driving.

1975 Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme - My first car, which was given to me by my grandfather. We called it the Blue Bomb. Interesting car to drive. I only drove it for about a month and a half, though, as my dad got a company car, and I then drove:

1992 Honda Civic DX - I started driving this car at 25,000 miles, and eventually owned it outright once I got to college. First car I actually officially owned (name on the title). Great car, but it spent it’s whole life outside in upstate NY, so it took a beating. Sold it at 150,000 miles, and bought my first new car:

2001 Nissan Sentra SE - Bought it in August 2001 before the '02s came out, and I loved this car. Plenty of power, reliable, very fun to drive. Put 104,000 miles on it in 5 years, and drove it in 10 different countries (USA, Canada, Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Liechtenstein, Czech Republic, France, Luxembourg and Belgium). Racked up lots of high speed miles on the Autobahn, and was proud to say it handled quite well at 110mph+. Traded it in this past August.

1985 Toyota Carina II (German spec) - Got this car for free (yes, free) while I was in Germany, and was my wife’s primary vehicle during our short time over there. Held up quite well, though the clutch started to slip towards the end. Surprisingly well built, and handled pretty well, though it had no power steering. Good little car, and it even did ok at high speed (got it to 105), though I usually kept it to around 80mph (130kph).

2001 Jeep Wrangler (currently own) - My wife got this car used when we returned to the US. Got it with low miles and in absolutely superb condition…no chips, dings, or paint damage of any kind (no clearcoat swirls even), and it like-new mechanical condition. My wife loves it, and will probably keep it a few more years. I’m not a big fan, personally - it’s too slow, it’s very loud, and we don’t go offroading with it. I’d like to take it offroad, but it’s her car, so I don’t. It is fun in the summer with the top off.

2006 Honda Civic Hybrid (current) - My current car, which I bought in August. Love the car. Surprisingly quick off the line, with acceptable acceleration, though it’s not nearly as fast or sporty as my Sentra, and it certainly isn’t going to win any races. My first non-manual transmission in 11 years (they don’t offer a 5-speed anymore). Oustanding fuel economy. I’m averaging 49mpg over the lifetime of the vehicle, with a high milage tank of 53.3 mpg. Already saved me $450 in gas in the past two and a half months (I drive a LOT).

As of today, I can add this car (in black) to my list. Anybody want to buy a Honda?
