I applied for a job about a week ago (well, one of many, but I really want this one) and I was wondering if it’s alright to email (or call?) the woman to whom I submitted my resume.
Would this be an unwelcome (“God he’s needy!”) inquiry, or does it show that I really am interested in the job?
TIA for any advice.
I think it shows a healthy interest if not overdone. I try to follow up once or twice over the period of a week or two and if I don’t get any response back, I drop it.
It’s definitely okay to call. The proper format is, “Hello, this is KKBattousai. I’m just calling to check on the status of the job opening in your company for which I interviewd last week.”
It’s best if you talk to the person who actually interviewed you, of course, but sometimes they’re not available. But don’t cause a stink. You just leave your name and number with the person who answered the phone, explainin you’re following up on the interview.
It’s also okay to email them - just don’t do it a lot. In fact, when I was lookin for my current job, I emailed my interviewer the day after the interview, thanking them for the opportunity to interview. Since it’s been a week, I’d suggest you email them just as you would call them (i.e., following up on the interview).
Whoops, dumb old me. You haven’t interviewed, you’ve just submitted a resume.
It’s still okay to call, of course. What you say is that you submitted a resume last week and were wondering if a decision had been made regarding the job opening.
Okay, guess that gives me something to do tomorrow morning.
So the proper format would be the same as the interview one, substituting “applied” for “interviewed”?
