How many days do you expect to sell out for Star Wars VII tonight?

Tickets are going on sale tonight… Do you think opening night will probably sell out long before the actual day? What about the second day? Third? Etc…

Don’t look now but it appears to me tickets are already on sale at Fandango…

Under 12 parsecs, at least.

Argh, I was unsure of my family’s available days given the available times, and in the time it took to verify this with my wife, Fandango has stopped being accessible. :frowning:

Eh, the first night might sell out, but not past that. I think that most of the fans are in the “cautiously optimistic” category, not the “must see this NOW!” category.

Well, I saw Phantom Menace at the theatre, Clones on DVD, and Sith on Thai bootleg, so at this rate I’ll probably get a homeless guy to recount it to me for cigarettes.

I don’t know about America, but round these here parts nobody really cares all that much about pre-sales of movie tickets. Many’s the time I’ve expected a big movie to be packed full on opening day, only to find the cinemas half, or even entirely, empty. They get busier on weekends, but as movies open here on Thursdays, getting in on opening day has never been a problem for me.

(Concerts are still sold out in seconds, though)

So many more screens today than in the past. I think it won’t sell out too much, though maybe the first night. I plan to just show up at a matinee on Saturday(the 19th) and buy tickets at the box office.

I’m not worried either. I’ll give it a few days, make sure the reviews are good, and see it at my leisure. If the movie comes out on a Friday, I doubt I’ll have any trouble getting seats the following Tuesday. There are a lot of movie theater seats and it’s not like major movies aren’t released like clockwork year in and year out. Star Wars may be good, but so was Avatar and the Dark Night, and people had no trouble getting seats to see those.

Welp as it happens, I managed to score tickets to a showing on the 17th at 8PM for me, my wife and my two older kiddos. I’ll tell you how the movie is after.

According to Fandango, only three showings are sold out in the five theaters closest to me, leaving 23 showings with tickets still available.

Nothing sold out here.

That’s good–I was afraid it was going to sell out so I was busy trying to buy tickets from crashed websites all night. I either bought four tickets or sixty four tickets. I’ll find out when I get my bank statement.

As of now there are still tickets available for the night-before showings at both the theaters here in Olympia.

I decided to go with a 7 AM showing on the big screen at PacSci up in Seattle, though.

I saw reports of websites crashing, but I logged on through an iPhone 3G connection on my lunch break and got tickets for the first one minute past midnight showing at the cinema down the road from me. I’m in the UK, if that makes any difference.

Just booked for the late morning showing and only half a dozen seats were taken.
