How many houses have you lived in?

15, including dorms.

I’m at 15, including a rental house I lived in for two months while house hunting here. I set the divide between places I lived vs places I stayed based on whether I had my own stuff with me and got mail delivered there. So my extended stay in London is out even though it was almost as long.

What’s the general consensus on different apartments in the same building? I lived in the same building for five years but had three progressively larger units in that time.

23 in 61 years which includes one dorm room and a sailboat.

Including any place that I lived for more than two months, a total of 29 residences. Longest tenure was 11 years in a home I owned from 2004 to 2015. Current house is 5 years, with no plans to move any time soon.

I would count it as three separate residences.

For a social work job application where the position potentially involved direct services to vulnerable clients, I had to fill out a list of everywhere I’d lived for more than a week from 1973 onwards. “It would have been NICE if you had asked me to bring that with me instead of asking me to conjure it up while I’m in the interview office!”, I muttered.

I counted 34, including a couple of intervals where the answer was “nowhere” or “on a road trip”

Glancing backwards earlier 1973 , four primary residences (and uncountable intervals of brief stays).

Restricting it to actual houses (no dormitories, hospitals, campgrounds, hotels etc): 23

  1. 12 altogether. 7 houses, 5 apartments. One apartment I was too young for any clear memory. I didn’t count brief periods where I stayed with someone else for 1-2 weeks.

ETA: Forgot about another house, so 13, 8 houses, 5 apartments.

I lived in 11, counting 5 houses, 4 apartments, and 2 dorms, but not counting camps and vacations.

At age 61 I’ve lived in 10 total: 3 with my family growing up, 2 at college, and 5 in adulthood.

I’m not worried about single, short-duration events, we survived the World Cup final, we can survive anything.
What I’m worried about is sea level rise moving my house from “comfortably close the River Plate” to “Inside the River Plate”.

9, counting two college dorms.

40 years in my current residence.

I’m 71.

I’m counting 15. Age 53. Growing up…

House #1: 0-3
House #2: 3-8
House #3: 8-26

There was a yo-yo effect going on in my early 20s. I moved out of my parents’ house three times, for less than a year each. The fourth time finally took, when I was 26. I lived in that apartment for about 7.5 years.

I then left the San Francisco Bay Area for Portland and sobered up, and the apartment surfing truly began. There was a short stint in Seattle in there. Back in Portland, I met my wife, and the moving slowed down a bit. When her special-needs daughter was going into middle school, we moved to get her into a school with a good special ed program. Same again three years later for high school. About a year after that, since we wouldn’t have to move for this purpose again, we became first-time home buyers at ages 45/46. That has just over eight years ago, and we’ve been here ever since.

I’m 49. I’ve lived in 21 residences, including a corporate apartment in Chicago I lived in for a year while keeping a residence in Michigan too.

72 here. Counting different dorm rooms each year, the total is 15 places. It’s stayed low because I’ve only had two residences from 1997 to the present. Given my age, I suspect there are still a couple more moves in my future, depending if I make it to my goal of 90…

Not as many as most of you!

Birth-2 Lived in an apartment
2-21 Lived in the home my mom and dad built
21-25 Lived in our first house
25-36 2nd house
26-current 3rd house

5 total

This is harder than I thought; and I almost forgot the couple of months in a houseshare in Santa Cruz, during a year when the real answer was “on the road”. Not counting the road, yes counting that houseshare, counting the three years in college dorms as three though I think they were all in the same building so that makes no more sense to me than saying that I moved if I started using a different bedroom in my house, also counting two different high school dorms though I don’t remember whether those were all the same room in a given building and they probably weren’t, counting the house my parents moved to while I was in college that I think I spent one summer and a number of shorter vacations at – I think I get 12, in 73 years,. Quite a few of those I wouldn’t have called “home”. I’ve been here 38 years; I lived in the house I grew up in for 18; I lived on one other house for 10 years. All the others were a lot shorter.

26 . In order to make it simple, I counted any place I stayed at for 30 days or more, whether or not it was a primary residence and whether or not it was consecutive. There are some hotels and relatives’ houses where I’m not quite sure if it is 30 days or not, so I didn’t count them. It would be 24 if I didn’t count the Holiday Inn in Alexandria VA or the house my father lived in for 20 something years up until a couple years ago and I would visit at least once a year. There is one campground, and one other hotel, and one other residence that I am not sure about. One of them is my mom’s residence that she stayed at for well over a decade, and then moved to the same apartment complex right next door in the same building. I’m not sure if I’ve quite stayed there 30 days or not.

I thought I had moved a lot over the years, but I’m not too high up there compared to others here, especially considering my age. I’m 60, and count 11 total different places I’ve lived, counting homes, apts, flats, rooms rented, etc.

27 houses/apartments that I remember, plus I think two before the earliest of those. And one ship and ten barracks whilst in the Navy, for a total of forty residences in fifteen cities/towns, in seventy years.
