How many miles a day to you commute? Roundtrip

It WAS 5 miles RT for many years, and I used to come home for lunch. Now, with a new job, it’s 148 miles RT (do I win?). But it’s on the highway, against the general flow of traffic, and only takes 70 minutes each way. In fact, with the advent of books on tape, I’m able to read more than I used to. I did have to get a more comfortable car than I did, but didja know a Buick LeSabre gets 30 mpg on the highway?

I live just outside Boston and work in coastal southern Maine, which is a rare situation. A fair number of people go the opposite way, but in bumper-to-bumper traffic the whole way (and with me smiling at them as I go by). Coulda been worse - I was getting ready to commute to Hartford, 2 hours each way.

New Hampshire is a statewide speed trap punctuated by tollbooths. Tellwiddem.

About 15 miles round trip, most of it a straight shot on the freeway–it takes me only about 15 minutes to get to work, and that’s only if the lights are against me and there’s a delay at the guard’s gate.

This is certainly a huge change from my last job, which would take me through some of the worst traffic in Los Angeles, often taking 2 hours for me to get to work.

During the week, 15 miles (I only know that because I sometimes walk home for exercise).

On the weekends, anywhere from 4-400 miles. Thank Og for bullet trains!

26 miles round trip M-F. About 40 minutes RT if traffic cooperates, which is most of the time.

According to Mapquest, it’s .24 miles to work. I think it’s even closer.

I walk.

School, on the other hand is 5.15 miles away. I’ve walked that, but it’s usually the hour-long bus ride for me.

ElvisL1ves, out of curiousity, whereabouts in Maine? I’ve got a couple of good friends up near Sacco, and a brother near Worcester, so I might be making that trip sometime during the next year or so.

As for me, it’s about 22 miles round trip, mostly highway and against traffic. Since this is a new job, I’m still getting a certain smug satisfaction out of seeing people backed up bumper-to-bumper and not moving heading into town while I’m heading into town. My old commute was 15 miles round trip into town, but I took the bus which took longer but involved a lot less hassle.

I think it’s 8 or 9 miles RT. It used to a little less than that, but I moved. About 10 minutes each way.

It’s all travelling on surface streets, since taking the freeway wouldn’t really save any time. My little 1987 Dodge Colt has seen better days (but is still plugging along) and nowadays I almost exclusively use it for the work commute. I think I have to fill my tank every 3 weeks. That’s nice.

49 miles RT

Moved to the countryside last year, used to commute 8m RT from one greater London suburb to another, it used to take about 25-30 mins.

journey now is 4m country lanes, 16m motorway, 4.5 m traffic-free suburban roads, & takes aprox 40mins, but it is a much less stress free drive & a good way to ‘wind down’ each day!

Its about 30 miles RT for me. 25 of those are Interstate or controled access federal highway and I work the graveyard shift so going to work there is no traffic. 20 minutes drive to work followed by a 5 minute walk. Going home its a 3 minute walk (extra doors are opened) and a ~30 minute drive.

7 miles round-trip, which surprises me (I thought it was a lot less, maybe 2 miles each way). North London to central London, all by bus.

About 25, I think. There are several routes I can take, depending upon the errands I need to run in the afternoon. In the morning, I go via the fastest way which is a slightly longer distance. I get to drive all of 2 miles on the highway - the rest of the way, I deal with lights and traffic.

Currently about 1100 miles. Thankfully, I only have to do it once every two weeks. Ah, the joys of working on an oil rig.

about 10 miles.
I cycle. abt 25 mins each way

You know, I’ve never even paid attention to how many miles away I work. However, I have noticed that it takes exactly:

Heartbreaker
Living Loving Maid (She’s Just a Woman)
Ramble On

to get me from work to home (that’s 11 mins and 6 secs, or 0.185 hrs, and the drive through town probably averages ~22 mph, which makes it a one-way trip of ~4 mi and a round-trip of ~8 mi.)

  1. New Jersey to PA, USA.

48 miles. Uphill. Both ways. In the snow. With no shoes.

Approximately 85 miles round trip, from West L.A. to Orange and back. By driving carefully, I can get 22 mpg in the Cherokee. When I get the bike fixed, I’ll get 50 mpg.

About 14 miles round trip. A little less.

50 miles RT, which wouldn’t be so bad, if I could skip the last 5 miles coming in, and going out, of the “big city”. The roads here in Charlotte pretty much suck, but our astute city council is doing everything in their power to bring them into the '70’s.

34 mi RT current job. At the end of the month, I get to stay home!

(Ok, I was laid off, but I’m looking forward to staying home for a while anyway.)
