ARGENTINA: Five missing.
AUSTRALIA: Three of its nationals were confirmed dead.
Another 90 who were in the vicinity of the World Trade
Centre at the time of the attacks were unaccounted for.
BANGLADESH: At least 50 Bangladeshis were killed in
the carnage at the World Trade Centre, where many
worked in restaurants and offices.
BELGIUM: Sixty of its nationals present in New York at the time of the attack, including four workers in the WTC, were still missing.
BRAZIL: Twenty-six missing.
BRITAIN: Nearly 100 confirmed dead. Foreign Secretary
Jack Straw said “the total number of British deaths is
unlikely to be less than the middle hundreds and maybe
higher.”
CANADA: Three confirmed dead and between 50 and 100
others were still missing.
CHILE: Three feared dead, although more than 250 have
been reported by relatives.
CHINA: Three Chinese nationals died and another was
missing. A man and woman both in their 60s, died aboard
the plane that was sent into the side of the Pentagon. A
41-year-old Chinese person was missing.
COLOMBIA: Red Cross said 199 people were reported
missing. While 17 people worked in the twin towers, others
may have been present in the area at the time. Tourists
aged 60 and over visiting New York that day are also
feared dead. Two Colombians were aboard one of the four
hijacked planes.
DENMARK: Foreign ministry said around 20 of its
nationals were unaccounted for.
DOMINICAN REPUBLIC: One citizen was found dead
and seven are missing.
ECUADOR: Thirty-seven missing.
EGYPT: One confirmed dead and at least three others
were missing.
EL SALVADOR: One citizen confirmed dead on one of the
four hijacked planes, 72 others reported missing.
FRANCE: A small number of its nationals working in the
World Trade Centre were unaccounted for. A foreign
ministry spokesman said no French dead have yet been
confirmed.
GERMANY: A provisional list shows more than 700
nationals missing since the attacks, but a foreign ministry
spokesman said the actual number was much lower and
the list of missing persons was rapidly shrinking by the
hour.
INDONESIA: One citizen died on one of the four hijacked
planes and another of its citizens was missing.
IRELAND: Four confirmed dead including a woman and
her four-year-old daughter who perished aboard one of the
jets that hit the World Trade Centre.
ITALY: Between 60 and 70 Italians were missing. Most of
them worked in the World Trade Centre or lived in the
area. The foreign ministry said few tourists were believed
to be among the missing.
JAPAN: Two Japanese died on the hijacked planes, 22
who were in the World Trade Centre are missing.
MALAYSIA: Seven missing.
MEXICO: 19 missing. Mexican consul, Salvador Beltran,
said 150 Mexicans worked in the centre, though media
said hundreds more worked in the restaurants on the lower
levels and in the immediate vicinity. Tepayac, a network of
Mexican community organizations, said as many as 500
Mexicans are feared dead in the collapsed towers.
PAKISTAN: One confirmed dead but that figure is certain
to rise. A government spokesman said around 650
Pakistani nationals worked in the World Trade Centre.
PARAGUAY: One missing - architect Obdulio Ruiz Diaz.
PERU: One dead, five missing.
THE PHILIPPINES: Seven missing.
PORTUGAL: Five believed dead.
SOUTH AFRICA: Media reported that a 41-year-old South
African man living in the United States died aboard the first aircraft flown into the World Trade Centre while two other South African men who were in the building around the time of the attacks were missing.
SPAIN: Without news of nine of its citizens, but declined to
describe them as officially missing.
SOUTH KOREA: 19 missing.
SWEDEN: One missing.
SWITZERLAND: Four dead.
TURKEY: 215 missing. About 500 Turkish nationals
worked in the World Trade Centre. A total of 210 of 425
Turks originally reported missing have since been found alive.
TAIWAN: Nine missing.
URUGUAY: Former cycling champion Alberto Dominguez,65, was on one of the American Airlines that crashed into the twin towers.
VENEZUELA: Three missing.
ZIMBABWE: Six missing, feared dead. Zimbabwe
Ambassador Simbi Mubako told the state-owned Herald
newspaper that at least five Zimbabweans were known to
have been working at the World Trade Centre, while one
worked in the Pentagon as an engineer.
