How many nations have lost citizens in the attacks?

Everyone knows that the USA has lost thousands of victims but I’d like to be aware of the pain and loss of all the nations who have lost mothers, fathers, daughters, and sons.

So far I know that the UK, Ireland, Australia, Germany and South Korea know that they have lost people. Who else has been caught in this terrible act?

I see we now have confirmed deaths from South Africa and Ghana.

It was mentioned on the news last night that several Chinese nationals likely perished. And it wouldn’t be a stretch to say there were probably several Japanese killed as well

In Canada, they told us of two confirmed deaths in the planes and of about 100 Canadians missing in NY.

The Japanese media are saying 22 Japanese missing after the attack, as well two on the hijacked planes. Many Japanese financial companies had offices in the WTC.

The Hindu reports 250 Indians killed, missing or injured. India is not on this list of more than 30 countries with dead and missing. Nor are Canada or Ghana. It’s going to be a long list.

One New Zealander was on one of the planes (he had lived in New York for about fifteen years) and can be considered dead. One more person is listed as missing at this early stage.

I just thought, there cannot be a country in the world that this tradgedy has not touched, either with a citizen dead or a relative of a citazen dead.

A Swiss couple was on one of the flights.

Two Swedes are reported missing. A man that worked in one of the towers and a woman that lives in the neighbourhood.

According to DN, the woman is fine.

Wasn’t the Royal Thai embassy in the tower? Maybe the staffers all escaped; I don’t know.

This Bangkok Post web article indicates up to 113 Thais unaccounted for. Offices for the Tourism Authority of Thailand, Board of Investment and Thai Trade Promotions office were located in the towers. At least two are known to be injured, but most are unaccounted for.

I think it was Ashcroft who said that it was ironic that the WTC was picked as it stood for the World Trade Center and not the American Trade Center, meaning that it housed companies from all over the world.

Anybody know if any Middle East companies had offices there and whether any of those companies cancelled their lease recently? That’s something the FBI might want to follow up on.

I heard on NPR that 4 Lebanese were missing and presumed dead in the kamikaze attack. The guy noted that, partly on account of this, most Lebanese were quite upset about the attack, unlike the ones in the refugee camps shown on TV.

I was flipping through the channels, and CSPAN had “Questions to the Prime Minister” on. Blair had just finished a statement, then the opposition made his (Ian something or other). One thing the opposition’s statement that struck me was that up to 1 in 10 victims may have been Brits. He attributed that number to Blair, but I don’t know where Blair got it. Anyone else heard this?

As a complete aside, who was Speaker of the House about 5-6 years ago? Betty something. Whenever I was watching Questions to the Prime Minister she would always crack me up.

Rough figures I’ve heard are ~5,000 killed, with ~500 of them British.

I’d like to know if any of the suspected terrorist countries had offices in the WTC, and whether any of their personnel were strangely “absent” when the planes struck…

I guess it would be hard to check on this, given the current chaos at the site, but it could be checked.

I don’t need to spell out why this data would be interesting…I’m sure someone must be looking into this question.

the Netherlands had people working in the WTC towers.

About 40 peolpe are still not heard from. :frowning:

Betty Boothroyd?
