How many people do you think got this Gieco commercial caveman joke?

 How many people watching the History Channel would get that? I would assume almost all of them.

It’s not exactly an obscure fact; their duel was covered in my basic 9th grade American History textbook. (Or was that 8th grade?) I’m sure a fair number of people have forgotten Aaron Burr’s name but I’d expect most graduates of American high schools to know how Hamilton died, and the context of the commercial is definitely enough to make it clear what the reference is.

Lin-Manuel Miranda does the Hamilton Rap at the White House.

Absolutely fantastic.

Have you watched the History channel lately?

I’m gonna go out on a limb here and say that the vast majority of people who watch “Swamp People” are not exactly among the intellectual elite.

The History hasn’t been about history for quite some time now.

. . . I don’t think that knowing about the Hamilton-Burr duel makes you part of any sort of intellectual elite.

Sadly, compared to folks who watch *Swamp People *on the History Channel, and watch wrestling on the Sci Fi Channel, it does.
This all started when they killed C Band satellite.

Do you understand the concept of hyper-bole? Or do you like to be contentious for the sake of being contentious?

Hell, I didn’t even know that it was hyphen-ated.

I watched it and realized I had seen it, just forgotten it. Thanks! (I did know about the duel long before the commercial though)

Yes, I understand the concept of hyperbole. I’m so familiar with it that I can even spell it! If you think you used it in this thread, I suspect that means you don’t understand the concept.

If you meant this phrase, “not exactly among the intellectual elite”, that was not an example of hyperbole. It was an example of litotes, or understatement.

I certainly remember (well, not personally) the Hamilton-Burr duel. I didn’t remember who won, but I definitely remember that there was a time when politics was even more interesting than it is now.

My husband asked a group of young businessmen tonight when WWII ended and no one could say. Incredible.

That would be Aaron Burr.

Did no one watch this great link I posted? :dubious:
It’s really worth the watch! I promise!

Not if it is rap.

Trust me- I’m no fan of rap and this is really good.

It’s Lin-Manuel Miranda, Broadway star, at the White House. How rough could it be?
