How many people do you think got this Gieco commercial caveman joke?

If you didn’t watch the Hatfield & McCoys on the Hstory channel last week probably didn’t see it.

Anyway, the jist of the commercial is: Caveman guy is a HR manager. He has two people in his office a Hatfeild and a McCoy. Caveman guy insists that these two must hate each other. Despite the fact that they both tell him they are quite friendly and have even gone fishing together.

It was a whole back and forth, slightly amusing scene.

But at the very end of the commercial, Caveman guy ushers them out of his office and then tells a couple of guys sitting just outside his office: “Burr, Hamilton, your next.”

My question is: How many folks actually got that last quip? My guess is, not many. :frowning:

Yo, you can call me Aaron Burr from the way I drop Hamiltons.

I got it.

And shit, why didn’t anyone tell me that caveman guy was still around? He was my fav!

More people than would have gotten it before one of my favorite Got Milk commercial.

My first thought too was that a lot of people probably remember Hamilton/Burr only because of that commercial. It was quite educational, considering it had 30 seconds to primarily sell milk, and teach history second.

As soon as I finished reading the OP I had “aaaaaonURRRRR” going through my head.

For the record, I knew exactly what the caveman was referring to and I did not learn this particular piece of history from that delightful milk ad. I didn’t really get the gist of the rest of the commercial, though.

Link to the commercial.

I’m gonna stop skipping commercials.

I’m not entirely sure I would have “gotten it” if they had lead with the Hamilton/Burr duel, but since 95% of the commercial was the Hatfield and McCoy dudes, and it aired *during *Hatfields & McCoys, and it only ended with the Hamilton/Burr reference, I got it. And I’m an idiot about history.

I also thought of the Got Milk commercial, which, by the way, I believe was the first ever Got Milk commercial on TV.

I thought the guy getting hit by the bus was the first.
Eta: Nope, arrobuuuu was the first.

The youtube links cuts off the “Burr, Hamilton” line.

Yes, so someone didn’t get it.

I didn’t see the Gieco commercial, but I would definitely have gotten the reference. I honestly can’t say if I would have gotten it if it hadn’t been for the Got Milk? commercial; that’s so ingrained in my personal history that I can’t recall if I knew about the duel before then or not.

In case anyone doesn’t know what we’re talking about, here is the original ad.

Thanks Suburban Plankton! I’d never seen that one and was too lazy to search.

I found the Hamilton/Burr thing the funnier joke in the commercial as it was an offhand more subtle joke than the bash you over the head in the middle of the HatFields and McCoys mini-series main joke.

I did, however, have to explain it to my wife and kids…

I woudl have gotten it, and I’ve never seen either commercial. But then I’m a geek who has actually read Chernow’s Hamilton.

I didn’t watch the show. But had I seen the ad, I’d have gotten the joke, and I’m not 'Mercan.

The person who posted the clip chopped off the punch line, perhaps because it meant nothing to him.

I got it. (didn’t watch the commercial)

I’m really confused by the premise of that ad.

The whole Geico caveman ad premise is that he is a caveman, but he’s not the stereotype. He’s smart, he’s modern, but everyone makes jokes about how cavement are dumb. That’s been the gag, he can’t get away from Geico and the “cavemen are dumb” stereotype.

So now, he’s an HR manager trying to deal with two employees, but he’s totally making assumptions about them that aren’t true. In other words, he’s dumb.
