How many posts can a thread have?

Simple: How many posts can a thread have before it is officially “done”? This question was brought on by this thread here. I mean, after 422 posts, what else could POSSIBLY be said about Jack Dean Tyler that hasn’t been said already? Why let this continue?

And I still think TubaDiva is tubular!

There’s no set number. When a thread hits about 250-400 posts, it often starts to choke and die, not showing new posts, not bumping to the top when posted to, etc. So we usually close them when they hit about that point. We may close threads for other reasosn besides number of posts, too.

IIRC, “Guy Stuff” was over a thousand posts. Anyone who bumped that would not be liked.

Well, the two of my threads that have gotten so large as to be unweildy (VVC and Unending Story) kept gaining new content throughout their lives, and Slythe’s VVC2 has around 100 posts in it, so it all depends on the topic at hand.

Guy Stuff is locked. Can’t be bumped. vBulletin chokes after 10 pages (450-500 posts, though occasionally earlier), so the days of the 1000 post threads died when UBB went away. As for me, I think one of my threads went into multiple (2 or 3) pages.

I think the 10 page choke was a hex error or something. Jerry fixed it, and Neverending Thread chugged along until Coldie’s mercy kill on page 13.
