How many SE Michiganders on the board

I’m from NW Ohio (Delta, 15 minutes from the line) and I have relatives in Hudson, Clayton, and Morenci? Does that count?

Raised in Melvindale, now living in the Monroe area. What’s funny is that almost no one in Monroe county has heard of Melvindale, so I’ve taken to saying I’m from near Dearborn.

Heck, no one in Waynne County has heard of Melvindale.

You’re only 39 years late. When Dick Purtan was just getting started on WKNR 1300 AM, he used to beat up on Melvindale (along with Garden City) all the time. (Times change. e.g. the WKNR call letters moved to Kalamazoo after they were abandoned by the station in Dearborn and, when that station was changed around, the WKNR call letters showed up as Cleveland talk radio.)

Friday works for me; Saturday probably doesn’t.

if you make it the next week I can make it, and probably bring The Only Sane One, ebok47, Shirt Ninja 13 and whatever my other sister registered as.

Brynda and I are available any weekend until the 15th (when we fly to England for two weeks). It also turns out that I don’t have to work next Saturday  so we could do it then as well.

How does Friday 23rd or Saturday 24th sound to everyone?

That’s April 23 or 24. If that won’t work, Medea’s Child’s suggestion of May 7 or 8 would be fine with us, too.

I can’t do anything next weekend (my Uni’s Open House weekend I have to participate in), and after that is studying for final exams and then finals week. Looks like I’ll have to pass this time. :frowning:

Saturdays work better for me than Fridays. I work Friday nights, but usually I don’t go in until midnight so I would be able to show up if it was on a Friday.

The exception is this Friday. I have to go in early.

Let me know. I’m looking forward to it.

I’m out of town this weekend (spectating at the Rolex Kentucky 3-Day Event, thanks for asking) and, almost unbelievably, I have plans Sat, May 1.

Usually I’m wiiide open, really.

OK, to summarize (please correct me if I am wrong).

Brynda and I can do any weekend for the next three weeks.

Gfactor can do 4/30 but not 5/1. Any other dates?

Medea’s Child can do 5/7 and 5/8

Odinoneeye can do any Friday or Saturday except 4/23 (Friday).

Hello Again cannot do the next two weekends.

It looks like Saturday, May 8th is going to be the best date. How does that sound? Are there any other Michigan dopers out there (yeah, I’m looking at you, Cranky  )?

So, we have a date, now all we need is a location. Once we get the place decided, I should be able to call about a reservation.

Seeing how I missed the last local Dopefest due to losing the remains of my hearing, I’d love to make this one.

Saturday, May 8th would work just fine. Although not in the morning. Jeez.

So what kind of food are dopers partial to?

For steak, I like the Texas Roadhouse, but I’m not sure if it can accomodate a large party. They don’t have large areas.

There’s a pretty good chinese/mongolian buffet in Berkley (I think) called East meets West (again, I think). That’s on Greenfield Road, just north of 696.

Any other suggestions?

Just dropping in to say I miss the Michidopers. Monroe County, Pa., just ain’t Monroe County, Mich., you know?

Of course you can. We share our toys here.

I’m in Virginia, but I was raised in Novi* and went to school at WMU. That Michigan Pronunciation Guide is a scream. I think now I have some weird Southern/Michigan accent which defies classification; people from the north think I have a southern accent, and people in the south think I have a northern accent.

If any of you were in a high school competition marching band from 1985-1988, I undoubtedly saw you play.

*Don’t hold that against me.

Then you probably know a certain band director whose initials are CS. He encountered some legal problems right around that time.

I graduated from West Bloomfield in 85, and my cousin graduated from Novi the same year, btw.

Me too. Graduated in 88.

I for one am very down on the Chinese buffet idea… mostly because I’m a chinese food snob (truth’s out). How about doing something none of us can do in our burbclaves? Such as…
-Meet in Greektown for dinner
-Road trip to Tony Packo’s + Art Museum or Zoo (Toledo… it’s an hour at most)
-That Iraqi restaurant that was closed that one time (Brynda & RickQ know what I’m taking about)
-Sat morning visit to Eastern Market for some old-school grocery shopping
-Early-Season Cedar Point run (opening Saturday, May 8)

Oh, yeah…I know that band director. Fantastic band director. And quite a hit with the ladies. Speaking of which, his legal troubles started the year after I graduated.

Who’s your cousin?
