I guess it doesn’t matter then
I just had my annual check up. I have high BP and am on Losartan. The bottom number is still a bit high and doc suggested a diuretic. I countered with “how about blood letting?”
The theory behind diuretics is that a lower volume of blood leads to low pressure of blood. Not very scientific, but it works. I did not get a blood letting spigot installed, he just laughed and said see you
next year.
I thought Losartan had been recalled. Hubs was on it, at the last refill attempt it became ‘no longer available’ here in Ontario, and the Dr ordered a different drug. I thought it was due to carcinogenics found in Losartan manufactured in China, which a lot of Losartan was.
Only Losartan made by particular manufacturers – at least, here in the U.S.
I take it.
Male 47
Once about 20% of the time
None about 80% of the time
Fewer than before now that I have a CPAP machine.
Male, 65. I can’t remember the last time I slept through the night. Normally get up twice, occasionally just once, occasionally three times.
Male 70. I have prostate cancer. My prostate was removed. Unfortunately, to the the proximity of the prostate and the bladder sphincters, there is often some damage. Getting up 3 times (once every 2 hours) is a good night. I’m so used to it now, I get up automatically if I wake up. On occasion I find myself by the toilet saying, I don’t need to pee what am I doing there only to look at my watch are realize I was here 5 minutes ago before a real quick 40 winks.
Female, 67. Almost never.
Male, 22. This only happens in the rare event that I drink lots of tea the previous evening, as I do every Chinese New Years. In that case I tend to wake up two or three times, but at the same time I would be sleeping from about 12:00-12:00.
I suspect (and so does the doctor at work) that this is because tea is a diuretic.

Male, 60.
Almost always once.

Male 56. Never, about 2/3 if the time. Otherwise once a night, usually about 3:30 in the morning. Occasionally twice, depending on my evening fluid intake. Last night for example I had a cup of herbal tea* in the evening because I was chilly and wanted something warm to drink. Peed before I went to bed, woke up at 12:30 to pee, again at 4:30, and then again when the alarm went off at 6.
It’s interesting to hear folks saying the frequency went down after they got a CPAP machine.
- It’s ironic that “sleepy time tea” is one of the worst culprits.
If I don’t take a diuretic my ankles swell. It’s not a good or healthy look. 50 mg of Hydrochlorothiazide daily.
2-3. I’m just terrible about drinking liquids late.
Male, 57: usually 1-2x. Sometimes never, sometimes more.
Then I come back to bed and read on my tablet. Sometimes it’s a bitch going back to sleep.
Female, 48.
If I’m sleeping well, none.
If I’m restless at least once, maybe twice.
Since I bought a new mattress and changed jobs my sleep quality has vastly improved and most nights I don’t wake up unless the cat is restless.
Male 60+ and usually twice a night although I must admit to having been on HCTZ for ages so its pretty much expected.
Male 60. I get up between 1 and 4 times. Like RickJay I’m terrible about drinking before bedtime.
I take BP meds with a water pill. I take it in the morning to reduce the effect.
Male, 66 yo. Never. I think my taking Propecia daily over the last 16 years is the reason.
I pee around 9pm and don’t have to go again until I get up at 5am. And even at 5 am there is no rush to the bathroom.
Female, 42. Almost always 0 times a night for just this reason. If I wake up enough to pee, I’m doomed, so I’m careful about how much I drink in the two hours before bed.
Male 67. Usually twice. Never when I was younger.
