Wow! What a storm! It started at 1:00 pm and didn’t end until after 2:00 am. We easily got two feet in Albany, even though the “official” amount was 19.8 inches. Some places West of us got over 30 inches.
It was such a nightmare trying to get to work. There was a CDTA bus almost blocking my road completely and I had to gun it and pray no one was coming. Luckily, there was no traffic. The roads were plowed but they couldn’t keep up with the snow drifts in the road, which were a good foot deep in the road shortly after the plows went through. I was one of the only cars on the road this morning. The rest were pickups and SUVs.
But I’m at work now, with my boss, everyone else couldn’t make it. I guess I’ve earned some brownie points. I’d better get to work so I don’t lose them.
In northern Morris County, for those of you to whom that would mean anything, I think we got about 4 to 8 inches. You are all witnesses to this… This is my last Winter!!!
Now I want you to hold me to that. Don’t let me change my mind.
We went through yet another Christmas without any snow…sigh. This morning there was just a little dusting of snow, hardly enough for an ant to ski on. We’re due for bigger storms this weekend, though.
5 inches in the south burbs of Chicago (at my parents, where I spent Xmas Eve and Xmas). The forecast said “lake effect flurries” which obviously wasn’t quite accurate.
I’m also just a little North of you in Glens Falls. We had 24-26 inches. We attempted to go to The Sagamore in Bolton Landing for dinner, it was nearly a complete whiteout and we ended up turning around and going back home. So, we ended up eating hot dogs for our Christmas dinner.
I’ve never been so afraid driving in my life and I’ve lived here for all of my 39 years.
Jeffb, One of the partners here lives in Saratoga and he made it to work here in Albany. He said the Northway wasn’t too bad, however, I had trouble just going 7 miles on the city streets.
The other partner is stuck in Utica because they closed the Thruway from Syracuse to the Catskills.
Honey and Jeffb, I heard we’re supposed to get another storm for New Year’s Eve or Day. I guess I won’t be going outside the apartment then, either.
As I got closer to home around 1:00 am Christmas morning there was a very thin layer of snow everywhere, except on the roads. This was only on top of the mountain, not in the valley or on the way up. It was pretty much gone by noon, but that’s as close to a “White Christmas” that I’ve seen in about 6 or 7 years.
