How Much Weight Are You Going To Lose By Thanksgiving?

My problem is that it has ALL accumulated in my stomach. My face, my arms and legs, my chest, my neck…all still look how I did at 215, 225. I think perhaps if the weight had been distributed more evenly, I might not be so motivated to lose it. But I just look ridiculous. Like a ridiculous 40 year old man with a basketball tucked under his shirt. I’m a normal looking guy who just happens to be 8 months pregnant.

Also: my dad lost a good chunk of weight earlier this year, so he gave me his fat pants. I struggle to button them some days. He got down to 34 waist, the pants are 36es, I’m a solid 38. :frowning:

225 by Thanksgiving. Thank you for this thread. I was going to get in shape anyway, but this gives me a target and a date and a public motivation. It’s a start.

As of late November last year, I had lost almost 110 lbs since spring of 2012, but I gained back about 20 lbs over the winter and spring. If I can lose even 10 lbs over the fall months and keep it off until spring, I will be very happy. I have no illusions about my ability to lose weight in the winter.

Hmm… I’ve been thinking about this since first noticing this thread, and I think that 30 lbs between now and Thanksgiving is doable. Not gonna be easy, but I’m significantly overweight and have only gotten more so this summer as I haven’t been doing much of anything. This fall I’ll be in my senior year of school, walking around campus every day and doing my best to eat much more healthy: rice, beans, veggies, soups, salads. No fast food, no soda, no processed food if I can avoid it. Walking at least a couple miles every day, hopefully. This summer I’ve basically walked not at all and my waistline is reminding of the error of my ways.

So. 30 lbs. That’s ~2.5 lbs per week. I’ll see how well I do and check back here Thanksgiving day, if I remember.

I’ve dropped 20 lbs since July 4th and hope to drop at least another 15 by Turkey Day and not screw up my life style change with the holidays. So far so good.

Before I started this I was at my heaviest weight ever. I would like to eventually see the south side of 200 again but that is a far off goal at this point.

I’ve been losing about a pound a month since the beginning of 2014, so maybe another 2 pounds by Thanksgiving. Or maybe not. No hurry.

2.5 pounds a week is easily done if you’re a guy. Not so much for women. I’d stay off the rice because of the big carb hit, or at least only eat it in very small quantities. Beans are high in carbs also, but have a lot of fiber. Don’t cut out fats completely; your system needs them, but opt for olive oil, if possible. You can eat pretty much anything, as long as you maintain portion control, and the exercise is very important: a minimum of 20 minutes of moderate exercise every day works wonders.

Well I’ll be studying at PSU, living on the edge of campus and walking wherever I need to go, so 20 minutes a day is pretty much guaranteed.

And every additional 20 minutes gets you into a higher calorie category. As I mentioned above, I’m down 30 pounds since the first of June, and I never feel hungry other than at mealtime, but it does take discipline not to snack on things like chips. When I do have a bad day (cheeseburger!), the next day is back to normal.

I’m hoping to drop another 10-15 pounds by Thanksgiving. At the end of July, I was at 215 pounds, which is tied for my all time heaviest. I was down to 203 this morning, and I’m training for a half marathon that takes place on October 24th. I’m hoping to be at 190 by then, but I’ve been at 203 for a couple of weeks. I’ve been lax about my eating, though; once I get that back under control the pounds should start dropping again.

FTR, I’m right around 6 feet tall: One doctor had me at 5’10, another at 5’11.5, and another at 6’0.5. I think the middle number is the most accurate.

In each of the last five years, I’ve lost about ten pounds between Labor Day and my birthday in mid-November, so I’ll go ahead and guess that I’m going to lose ten pounds by mid-November. I mean, it’s the same ten pounds every year, but it still takes a little effort, you know?

(I do the same thing between mid-Jan and the end of March each year. I’m going to have to make some life changes to the “fun” parts of the year eventually, when I can’t manage it so easily just by stopping with the booze. But not yet!)

I’ve lost about about 20 pounds before the summer. Took a break during June and July, then started back at the beginning of August. I probably picked up a couple of pounds during the break, but I’m still down a net of 31 pounds since February. I’d like to lost another 10 more (actually 9), and set my ceiling at five above that. I should be able to hit my new ceiling in another month, and my ultimate bottom level by Thanksgiving.

Year-end holidays don’t have that much effect on my weight, as I don’t exactly get invited to a lot of get-togethers. However, any post-holiday days are dangerous for me, as I always load up on half price holiday candy for any holiday all during the year. At this moment, I have about five pounds of various marked down chocolates waiting for me.

I’m in. I’ve lost 40 pounds since March and at the pace I’m going, I’d say I’ll lose 15 more by Thanksgiving, maybe more. But I’m due to hit a plateau. I can feel it. :frowning:

I weighed in this morning at 200.8 pounds. I’m excited to be so close to my first goal of getting back under 200! I’m updating my goal here: I want to be at 185 by Thanksgiving.

I have been trying to lose 7 pounds all summer. It feels like such a small amount, but boy is it stuck to me.

I’m finally down 1.6 pounds as of this morning. So I have 5.4 more to go. I hope to have those gone by Thanksgiving or sooner. I’m very small framed so these 5 pounds just kick my butt.

I hope this thread will help keep me motivated.

I’ve lost 34 lbs. this year. I don’t set time-and-date goals, but I’d like to lose about 20 more.

I’ve been insanely busy at work, working on a project that affords me no time to eat and often has me running back and forth between buildings. I have lost 5 pounds in the past 2 weeks on what I’ve named “The <title of work project> diet.” Basically I started intermittent fasting without meaning to, but it’s working for me. I get good nutrition in the hours that I do eat, so I’m not starving myself nor am I gorging once I get home. I know a lot of people are skeptical about anything like IF, but I’ve read a lot about it and I truly don’t have time to eat during the day. I’m also not someone who’s afraid to be hungry from time to time.

Id like to lose 10 more pounds or slim down by the equivalent amount through strength training and cardio and diet (meaning, the number is less important than how I look), so I’m in. Besides, when someone throws down the gauntlet with “it’s on, bitches” the way the OP did, I have to respond.

ETA: some if you are really big losers. Congrats!

I’d like to try for 10. I lost 32 pounds a few years ago and have put back on 18. I’ve signed up for an online “mindful eating” course and know I need to work on my portion control. I do a lot of exercise. I ran a 5k this morning, but being 56 and female and hormonal means that exercise helps a little but not like it used to.

I worked my butt off the last 2 days helping setup, run and take down a festival. My bonus reward, I am now down 22 lbs. So 13 to go for Thanksgiving.

At first I didn’t realize you were quoting yourself to add to your total, and I thought you’d lost 22 lbs over the weekend!

Now that would actually be scary.
