I used to go with my Dad to watch Frank Howard and the Senators in the late 60’s & very early 70’s. How much were ticket prices to RFK to watch the ballgame in 1970?
In 1969, the farthest upper grandstand tickets were $2. The better, closer-in grandstands were $4-5. Those were price increases from just the year before, where the average ticket sold was under $2!!
They raised ticket prices slightly in 1970. General admission $2.50. The rest of the seats in 1970 were raised to $3.50, $4, $5, $6.00. The $5.00 and $6 seats were field and mezzanine boxes. General admission tickets for 13 and under were $1.
That’s pretty cool. Just for comparison you can still get tickets to a Cubs game for $10 if it’s a “value date” and you sit in the upper outfield deck. Honestly I don’t know of anyone ever actually paying just $10, but the ballclub’s ticket prices say you can.
You can sit for $5 in the Upper Grandstand for the Nationals this season - but its not RFK as you know!
(and uh that is amazing that you have that Sam)
That’s quite true, it is amazing that not only did someone have the answer, but that quickly too. Gotta love the Dope.
I actually mistyped something in the above–the “better” grandstands weren’t $4-5. Those were box seats in 1969, and they were raised, in 1970, to $5-6.
