My wife was up late last night making some pumpkin bread for her holiday party at work today. This morning when I woke up I could smell what smelled like pumpkin bread that had baked a little too long. I went in the kitchen to pour some coffee and heard a “click” and noticed that the oven was still on. I turned it off, then looked inside and saw a charred black mini pumpkin loaf brick.
Apparently she left one of the mini loaves in the oven to bake “just a little longer”, then forgot about it and went to bed. Oops!
I had salt dough ornaments cooking at 150 just to finish drying.
Then I preheated the oven to 400 for a pizza!
Well I simplified my Christmas. No salt-dough ornaments this year. On the other hand, I do have some charred lumps if everyone needs stocking fillers for the naughty folks.
I know there must be a way to use whats left; maybe to make it into a “pumpkin potpourri”… but for the life of me I can’t think of a good one.
Maybe it could it be ground up, mixed with potters soil, and you could grow a plant in it? I wouldn’t leave it in your kitchen bread-pan though.
Oh, and once its mixed with dirt, please don’t serve it to guests.
I once forgot a whole potato in the oven when I did a self-cleaning cycle. When the cleaning was done, I opened the door and found a potato-shaped piece of ash. It disintegrated when I tried to pick it up.
Unfortunately it had already been tossed in the trash. I should have snapped a picture when I first pulled it out of the oven!
And as it turns out, that mini loaf was from a little bit of batter that was left over. She was going to save it and put it in the fridge, but then decided to go ahead and bake it.
