Chips - maybe once or twice a week at most - sometimes I’ll go weeks without having any.
Fast food - very rarely - less than once a month.
Pizza - We’ll buy it every week or 2, and get 2 or 3 meals out of our purchase.
I don’t deep fry anything, and I may rarely pan-fry potatoes with onions, but that’s pretty much it.
Chocolate bars - varies from none to 2 a day - probably averaging no more than two dozen a month.
Donuts - only if someone brings them to work - less than once a month.
mega-muffins - less than once a month.
Store bought cookies - less than once a month.
EVERY DAY! Breyer’s chocolate, a nice sized bowl, every day if we have ice cream in the house and I try to make sure we always have ice cream in the house. As a matter of fact, I’m considering going to the store only because we are out of ice cream and carrots*.
*which my dogs eat for their snacks, because I am a mean mom and won’t let them eat as crappy as me.
**Potato chips/Cheetos/Doritos etc. **- Never. I don’t like this stuff anymore (though it took me a while to realize that), unless you count Chex Mix, my favorite snack food. I don’t because I think it’s generally less unhealthy than potato chips, etc., but I could be deluding myself. Fast food hamburgers/battered chicken burgers - Trying to stop altogether. It’s so unhealthy and not that good, either. The appeal, for me, is that it’s mindless–you don’t have to make too many decisions when you’re just hungry and don’t care what you eat. Right now I have it once a month, maybe. Pizza - Way too often. At least once a week, maybe twice. Deep-fried/pan-fried with lots of oil home-cooked foods - My SO is a big fan of frying stuff in oil, and also of fatty breakfast foods. He’ll make them for us about once a month. Chocolate bars (other than pure dark chocolate) -Rarely. Weird, because I LOVE chocolate. But I never buy bars of it, and when I do it’s usually a Twix. Donuts - Never. Another food I recently realized I don’t like after years of eating it. Those huge muffins - Not worth eating, so I never do. Store-bought cookies (Oreos, etc.) - I so wanted to buy chocolate chip cookies in the grocery store the other day! I’ve been craving them lately. But I didn’t, because I’m not good at keeping myself from eating half the bag in one sitting.
I think you’re giving pizza a bit of a bad rap. Depending on what you put on it it’s likely to be at least as healthy as a cheese and tomato sandwich, which I wouldn’t call a “bad” food.
The rest of the list I’ll give you though (and you realise you’ve tripled my corn chips dosage for this week just by starting this thread? Damn yer eyes!)
Potato chips/Cheetos/Doritos etc. I’ll share a bag of crisps with my husband maybe once a week.
Fast food hamburgers/battered chicken burgers I’ll make burgers from scratch maybe once a month. I can’t remember the last time I had a Burger King/McD/KFC meal.
Pizza Once every couple of weeks, on a night I can’t be bothered to cook.
Deep-fried/pan-fried with lots of oil home-cooked foods I don’t deep fry anything. I do fry things, but either stir-fry or shallow fry, in perhaps a teaspoon of soy, sesame or olive oil for the two of us. Chocolate bars (other than pure dark chocolate) may be one every month. I’ll make a 100g bar of dark chocolate last a week and I eat a square or two of that every day. I love chocolate.
Donuts big ones, I’ve had maybe 6 in my life. I’ll buy a tub of mini ones twice a year and eat perhaps 4 or 5.
Those huge muffins I can’t finish ordinary sized muffins (which I eat maybe once every 3 months) so I don’t eat the big ones.
Store-bought cookies (Oreos, etc.) I’ll have biscuit at work with a cup of tea perhaps 3 times a week , although it’s usually a ginger nut, Hobnob, chocolate Digestive, Jaffa cake or a piece of shortbread. My husband will buy a packet of biscuits about once a monthand then I’ll eat maybe 2 or 3 a day until we finish the packet.
My husband like gummy swets (Haribo, wine gumes, sour gums, hard gums, gummy bears) and he usually has a packet somewhere, so i’ll have a couple of those sweets a day.
My treat is ice-cream- I get a tub every month and eat a spoonful every night until it is gone…I try to make it last, because I only get a tub a month.
Yeah, I was thinking this, too. After I thought “Hey, I hardly ever eat any of this crap, but PIZZA???”
See, this is one of the ways living in NYC sets you apart from everybody else in the US, and most people everywhere else. Pizza is what we have in Brooklyn the way Podunk has fast food. Every couple of blocks there’s a pizzeria, making fresh pies throughout the day and selling them by the slice. If I’m out (on foot, not in a motorcar – another big difference) and I’m hungry and I don’t have time or cash for a restaurant, I’ll stop in and grab a hot slice for two bucks.
Seeing most of you cite pizza purchased from a supermarket freezer case weirds me out a little, too.
Potato chips/Cheetos/Doritos etc.: I’ll eat 1 $0.99 bag of Lays Baked potato chips a week. That’s it.
Fast food hamburgers/battered chicken burgers: I’ll probably give in and have 1 fast food hamburger (usually Carl’s Jr.) each month.
Pizza: If I’m in the Haight or the Castro, I usually can’t resist 1 slice of Escape from New York’s Potato/Garlic/Pesto pizza. I’ll also occasionally eat 1 Lean Cuisine French Bread pizza at home. That averages to two slices each month.
Deep-fried/pan-fried with lots of oil home-cooked foods: I’ll eat Chinese take-out once a month. I don’t prepare anything like that at home.
Chocolate bars (other than pure dark chocolate): I’ll very rarely give in and buy a box of Milk Duds at the theater or a Reeses PB cup at the 7-11. Again, the average is one item/month.
Donuts: I’d say I buy 1 donut at the local bakery every 2 weeks, so that’s 2 donuts (always cake)/month
Those huge muffins: Never.
Store-bought cookies (Oreos, etc.): I’ll probably buy 1 box of Low Fat Nilla Wafers 4 times a year. That’s the only cookies I buy.
I can see that argument. I could be wrong, but I don’t think many dieticians would recommend your average (greasy, thick crust, heavily loaded with full-fat cheese, loaded with pepperoni) pizza for a healthy, balanced diet.
I find the Burger King Chicken Sandwich to be a thing of beauty, myself. Fried patty, mayo and lettuce, sesame bun. Something about it just hits the spot.
How often per day, per week, or per month do you eat -
Potato chips/Cheetos/Doritos etc. - Maybe once a week, for nachos.
Fast food hamburgers/battered chicken burgers - twice a month, max.
Pizza - once a month, if that. Usually bring it home and cook it yourself, or frozen from store.
Deep-fried/pan-fried with lots of oil home-cooked foods - hardly ever anymore. We have lots of Weight Watchers recipes that simulate this without the grease.
Chocolate bars (other than pure dark chocolate) - only when my wife buys them. a few times a month on average.
Donuts - Say twice a month, when I get them free from the Entemann’s surplus store. (You get one free item with a $7 purchase, and donut holes are often the best there.)
Those huge muffins - almost never
Store-bought cookies (Oreos, etc.) - 5 days a week. I take them for desert after lunch.
(You can break it down by food and by occurence if you like - for example, I have cookies every day, but pizza once a month sort of thing).
How often per day, per week, or per month do you eat -
Potato chips/Cheetos/Doritos etc. almost every day
Fast food hamburgers/battered chicken burgers once a month
Pizza once every 3 months, usually homemade though
Deep-fried/pan-fried with lots of oil home-cooked foods once a week
Chocolate bars (other than pure dark chocolate) 3 times a week
Donuts rarely - 1 a year?
Those huge muffins rarely
Store-bought cookies (Oreos, etc.) once a month
