How often do you get a haircut

Every six weeks for me. My hair is fine but quite thick, as it grows out of the current style it starts to look lank and ratty so that’s a kind of look to be avoided.

Every four weeks for me.

For over 12 years, I got my hair cut by a barber who owned his own shop, but I could only make it in on Saturdays (because the shop was closed by the time I got home from work during the week). However, the wait time at the barber shop was taking longer and longer on Saturdays (up to 2-3 hours), and he didn’t make appointments. He also started coming in later and later (and sometimes failed to show up at all).

I repeatedly complained about how long it was taking to get a haircut to my wife, and she convinced me to try her hairdresser at a fancy salon. I much prefer it. I can make an an appointment during the work week during my lunch hour and be done in just 30 minutes.

I hate getting my hair cut, mainly because I can’t find a stylist who can read my mind and figure out what to do with my fine, straight, thinning head covering. I don’t want to fuss with my hair - I want to wash, towel, comb, go. When it’s too short, I feel like I have a tiny head on a huge body. When it’s long, it gets all tangled and messy-looking all the time. It has virtually no natural body. Honestly, I don’t know what to do with it but I do know I’m not spending a ridiculous amount of money on my hair.

So when it gets to the point that I can’t stand it any more (and I’m close to that now) I go to a chain, tell them to give me a low-maintenance cut, and it’ll hold me for 3 or 4 or 5 months till I can’t stand it again. I envy my husband’s #1 buzz which I can do for him in about 5 minutes.

Every now and then I go in and pay someone way too much to ever-so-carefully trim off only the damaged ends and then do a second-pass trimming to even up the ends, leaving maybe 2 tablespoons’ worth of very tiny hair-snippets on the floor. It’s been over a year and I’m way overdue for it, with split ends and thinned out places at the bottom edges that don’t look so good.

Every 30-60 days for me, but a haircut where I go costs $15-$18 including tip (sometimes they charge the posted $3 for the beard trim, sometimes they don’t) and includes a 5-10 minute shoulder massage afterward!

I voted that I don’t get my hair cut, but I assumed the question was regarding actually having someone else cut it. Usually about once a year or so I’ll cut my own hair. It’s just past my shoulder and slightly wavy so what I do is this. Wash it. Brush it. Part it down the middle and throw half over each shoulder. Then, looking in a mirror, I just kinda snip snip the ends hanging over my shoulder and then get on with my day lol

Guy here. Every 4-5 months. I wake up one morning and it looks and feels like hell, all at once. Off to Hair Cuttery. Lather, rinse, repeat (how appropriate).

I don’t get it cut by anybody else, I just buzz it with my clippers once a week. Male, 46. Thinning since my 20s and now I just keep it at a nice even 1/16 inch. It’s the low-maintenance/aerodynamic style

About every 6-8 weeks.

My stylist just came back from maternity leave and I’m shaggy, so I’ll be there Friday.

I go every 4 or 5 weeks. I enjoy sitting in the chair, the hot towel, shampoo, and shoulder massage, even the inane chatter.

I go every 4 or 5 weeks. I enjoy the hot towel, the shampoo, the shoulder massage, and even (oddly for me) the inane chatter. It’s not my actual hair that serves as a reminder to make a hair appointment, it’s my eyebrows.

Wut? I thought maintenance of the eyebrows was the responsibility, along with nose/ear hair, of the consumer.,?

50 bucks for a man?

Wow, I usually pay between $10-$20 depending and I usually hit the $10 tuesday place.

Now ONCE I tried this salon which was $50 but man, what a place! You got a free drink (beer, spirits, wine, soda, etc…) sat in a lounge chair, pretty girls, it was actually a kind of men’s club called The Gents Place. But then I had a half price coupon. Got to admit my wife said it was the best haircut she’d ever seen on me.

I can see this for some men who work in sales or otherwise need to look extra good.

Three to six weeks is “not that often” and “often put off longer than necessary”? I only cut my hair two or three times a year.

Mine is mid-back length. I cut it myself when it starts to look a little raggedy around the edges or starts feeling too heavy in a pony tail, probably twice a year. Long hair is really easy to cut yourself.

Every hair cutter I’ve ever been to will gladly neaten up the eyebrows. In fact, the person I’ve been going to recently thinks my eyebrows are so unruly that she goes after them first.

Sorry, I meant in between haircuts. I trim my eyebrows a couple times a week. Maybe mine grow extra fast.

Maybe the eyebrows are concealing your hair.

In some cases eyebrows could conceal a hare!

Same here. I don’t know what choice that would be on the poll. (Really? Monthly was too difficult to add as a choice?)

I just got my hair cut yesterday, I had the back & sides buzzed to a 1. When they get too long and start sticking up like a puffball, that’s when I know I need to get a trim. It used to run around $30 including tip, but they just raised the prices. :frowning: The cheapest places I’ve found have been $17-$18 plus tip, but they tend to always really go at your head with those clippers, pressing as hard as possible. Not pleasant at all.
