How Often Do You Pee in the Shower?

Isn’t it gross to have the urine come in contact with the rest of the shower/tub? You guys wouldn’t think peeing on the floor and then pouring water over it was acceptable…er, right?

No, the urine coming out of me is sterile, it’s going straight down the drain and the running shower washes it all away in a second anyway. It’s all part of the “cleansing” routine for me. I get out of the shower, clean, fresh and with an empty bladder…Ahhh! Refreshing!

What’s “gross” about it? Fresh piss is sterile…WAY more sterile than the soles of your shoes, your purse, your counter top or cutting board or your keyboard.

Based on your (non) understanding of basic hygeine, I’d choose to allow vulnerable crawling babies to crawl around just about anywhere other thanwhere you live, which is most likely dirtier than where I live.

I thought urine was only sterile while in the bladder.

I’ve probably done it maybe a handful of times, as an adult, usually in emergency situations (the only time I can remember clearly was maybe five years ago at a public pool where the public showers were cleaner than the malfunctioning toilets). Last time I was in London my friend’s toilet was broken (not backed up, something with the hardware). It had been that way for about a month. She was peeing in the shower, regularly, and doing everything else at her work or the cafe down the street. Maybe she was used to it, but it smelled like stale urine, no matter how well that tub got rinsed.

It becomes un-sterile when exposed to air…which, unlike the piss sitting on a toilet seat after being anointed by a delicate hoverer, it doesn’t have much of a chance of before being washed away by the water from your shower.

But yes, I occasionally pee in the shower. It’s silly to get out of a shower just to pee when it’ll all be washed away in seconds anyway.

What exactly do you know about where I live?

So if peeing in the shower is acceptable, do you think it’s fine to pee anywhere else if you’re just going to pour water over it?

That is such a bogus comparison. For one thing a shower is an enclosed area with a drain that is used to clean the body. And during that process of cleaning the body, releasing urine, that is washed away along with everything else you’ve scrubbed off your body, right down the drain, seems like a natural thing to do. How is that anything like pissing all over the living room floor and then dumping some water on it? :dubious:

No, I don’t pee in the driveway before I wash my car if that is the type of thing you are implying.

Several years ago, a local news team caught home repair handymen, plumbers and others peeing in their customer’s kitchen sinks. Now that is gross.

I pee in the shower occasionally, if I need to. I tend to use soap when I am in the shower. Pee. Then wash. Pretty simple really. It’s just urine and it’s pretty sterile when it first comes out. It’s not like peeing in a bucket and letting it sit there.

But just because it goes down a drain doesn’t mean it hasn’t left residue on the shower/bathtub floor. Just because everything else gets washed down, why is that any cleaner? It’s not like people are scrubbing their showers/bathtubs down after they pee in them.

You wash your ass in the shower. (at least, I hope you do) Is that less gross than urine? Do you scrub your shower down every time you wash your ass?

No, but I’m not crapping in my shower.

No. I’ve never done it. It never even occurred to me. I mean, Christ, the toilet’s right there, you know? And I’m a girl, FWIW.

Even an invisible amount of fecal matter (which is surely there) is more gross, shower-fouling, and potentially unhealthy than a whole bladder full of urine.

But that minuscule amount of feces is going to be there no matter what. I don’t understand making a conscious choice to pee in the shower. Isn’t it easier just to pee before getting in?

I always pee first thing in the morning. Sometimes it’s not until well after coffee consumption that I shower. Sometimes the urge to evacuate strikes while showering if the diuretic effect kicks in. I’m female. If I’m already soaking wet, I’m not about to get out and dry off just to pee. I’m also not about to puddle water all over the floor and the seat just to pee. In this case, it’s going down the shower drain.

I voted occasionally. It’s probably three or four times a year.

Get a grip, people. Urine is sterile, it’s a hella lot cleaner than the bacteria and dirt you’re washing off your body and hair, which is also leaving residue all over the shower, unless you’re a superfreak who washes the tub after every shower, and in that case, you would be cleaning the urine too, so why would it matter? Perhaps my view is skewed since I have my own shower that I don’t have to share. I’m not sure sharing the shower would change my mind for something that happens every few months or so.

I get that other people’s excretions are gross, whether they’re sterile or not. But some pee in the home shower, that gets followed by soap and a good rinse, is not comparable to making people swim in it or publicly urinating in a shared-by-strangers shower.

I think the consensus has shown that “no” it’s not easier, it’s not as fast/efficient, and it’s not as water-conserving.
I can understand the problem if you’re sharing a shower with someone, and if your SO/spouse is grossed out by it, but otherwise it’s all around the best way!

So I’m guessing you aren’t into golden showers then?

Of course I pee in the shower…why wouldn’t I? I don’t do it every time I shower, but maybe every second or third shower. Why waste perfectly good water that’s going down the drain anyway? Frankly, I’m surprised at how many people find this gross. I thought everyone (well, at least men, based on my conversations) peed in the shower occasionally.

I am struck by how even the responses are.

mmm

I used to think it was disgusting. Then I developed a slight bladder problem- when I need to go, I really need to go. So I started doing it in the shower- cleanest place, and cleanest way for me. Urine is generally sterile, if unpleasant-smelling. I leave the water running after, for a bit.

I guess it’s a bit gross because I’m a girl, but I’ve started finding it kind of carthartic, you know? Haha! But I’d never do it if I had company in the shower. Nor in anyone else’s shower but my own
