Had a conversation with a friend this morning, who was grossed out by the prospect of sheets that were not washed weekly.
I couldn’t be bothered to change them weekly if you paid me; somewhere slightly more than monthly is the schedule I’m on these days, though I admit to having spent quite some time when it was few and far between (not having in-house laundry, you make some choices).
Maybe that’s an error in the poll based on the writer’s bias; I had not imagined anyone would regularly change sheets every 2-3 days. Owning that many sets of sheets and/or doing that much laundry for the sake of super-fresh sheets is . . . outside of my experience.
Every 3-4 weeks usually. Since I have forbidden the cats the bedroom and wear slippers before getting into bed, that keeps the sheets fairly clean unless I spill something.
I own more than one set of sheets, but actually I just take off the one set, wash it, and put it back on the bed, because I hate folding sheets. And I usually do a load of laundry every day or two anyway so as not to have sweaty exercise clothes develop an unwashable stink, so it doesn’t really even require doing an extra load. If I had to go to the laundromat, I’d try to minimize it.
Honestly, I strip the bed when I think about it. It’s not a regularly scheduled chore. When it’s hot and we sweat at night, I’ll change them more often. Or if the cat spends too much time on my pillow and I end up with sniffles and watery eyes. I can safely say “at least monthly” but the real answer is “whenever.”
I used to do it about once a month, but then I bought a new bed and fancy real linen sheets to go on it. I’m so enamored with my purchase that I’ve stuck to washing the linens every week since then.
The downside is of course if I have my monthly visitor unexpectedly, getting the stain out is much more of an imperative and worrisome task than with cheap sheets (which I could just easily replace if it came to that).
Probably twice a week for us too, because the dog has “accidents”. You might wonder why we sleep with the big leaky bitch, and on laundry day, so do I.
I wash them once a week, along with the bath towel, washclothes, kitchen towels, underwear and other whites. At the same time, I do a load of colors. Basically, everything gets washed at the same time.
Once a week, at the same time as general house cleaning.
I get the sniffles if the house or bed get dusty, so we’re pretty rigorous about regular cleaning and washing. And let’s face it, there’s nothing lovelier than a crispy clean bed. It’s like sleeping in a posh hotel.
My wife is much more diligent about changing sheets than I ever was before we moved in together. I’d say she aims for once a week. I could easily go a month or more without noticing a problem.
Same with us. Before we hired a cleaning lady, I used to wash the sheets weekly, but since then I’ve gotten out of the habit of doing them on the in-between weeks.
Similarly with vacuuming - I used to vacuum weekly, but now the only time I’ll take out the vacuum is if stuff on the carpet is visible enough to annoy me and it’s still several days until the cleaning lady visits. So I vacuum maybe 4-6 times a year, and it’s just spot cleaning when I do, rather than vacuuming whole rooms.
My wife has a clean sheet fetish; if I had the $$ to pay someone to wash and press our sheets daily, it would be pretty high up on the list of best gifts ever for her.
She changes the sheets once a week at a minimum, and sometimes 2-3 a week if the dogs have gotten muddy paws on them.
Every week for us. I guess if one showers at night, letting them go for awhile is okay. We shower in the morning, so by evening, we’re climbing to bed with whatever we’ve picked during the day.
