Thinking past the bare minimum of still being alive when your child graduates high school, I know that I have absolutely leaned on my parents at various times in my adult life. Now my mom is getting into her twilight years, and all her kids are financially and emotionally in a place to allow her to lean on us (40-50 years old). I think having kids is a young person’s game if you want to maximize the experience for everyone, not just limp across the finish line.
That’s assuming you and your SO are young to begin with, and are ready to make that commitment.
