How old were you when you first married?

Married at 27 and still very happy!!!

I was 28.

22 for the first marriage. It didn’t take. 26 the second time around - 10 years.

22 would have been an OK age - had I married the right guy. He immediately got remarried (I think within minutes of the divorce becoming final) and is still married to the same woman. Since he is still as immature as he was then - I think success has more to do with like marrying like than age.

Well, Kalhoun and Crescent seem to be the record holders so far. Congratulations!

I do actually have an ulterior motive for wondering. One of my best childhood friends is almost 40 and wondering if she’ll ever get married, or even just form a long-term relationship. It’s pretty clear what the problem is (and it’s certainly not looks or personality): she’s a road warrior. Probably the most time she’s ever spent in the same place in the past 20 years is about 3 weeks, and that doesn’t happen very often. Awfully hard to form a significant relationship with someone if you’re only in town for 2 days and may not be back again for years, if ever. She loves her job, but she’s thinking of changing careers just so she can settle down long enough to form a long-term relationship.

I had just turned 32.
Mature enough, though I got much more mature during our marriage.

I had a child and other long-term relationships (including 9 years with hubby before we married), but those aren’t actually marriage. Yeah, I guess I was a bit of a geezer, huh?

But Dragon Phoenix has me beat by two years! WooHOO!

Yet another 24. Husband was 32. Been married two and a half years so far.

I was 23, hubby was 24. It’ll be a year-and-a-half this month.

“How old were you when you first married?” Aren’t you supposed to be married only once? I met hubby when I was 18 and he was 21, we married a year and a half later when I was 20. We just had our 14th anniverary. We are still happy.

About 27 years ago, a friend of mine was first married at 34 and her husband was a couple of years younger. They have 2 children and are also still married.

Yes, English is my first language. Yes, the OP was pretty much gibberish. I am grateful to the many people who replied anyway.

Lee said, “Aren’t you supposed to be married only once?”

Some people might say that. That doesn’t mean it goes that way. Look at the stats. I’ve recently heard of first marriages referred to as “starter marriages”. Heh.

Yeah, and it ticks me off. I have been asked what I thought my next marriage would be like and what I will do differently, as a topic of casual conversation.
