Works that exist for the express purpose of sexual arousal.
I will be damned if I remember, but given my age it was likely to have been the Venus of Willendorf.
I actually can’t recall. I know I bought some for a class assignment when I was 21 and also read quite a bit of it for the same class.
I probably saw it earlier, but I can’t think of when. I had seen Playboy, but that didn’t count.
Yeah, I guess I didn’t think about Playboy magazines and the such. My mind automatically went to video porn. I am surprised at how easily people found magazines in their own homes. I never saw anything of the sort and I’m pretty sure my dad never read anything like that, but of course I can’t be certain. I wonder if boys get exposed at an earlier age than girls, on average.
Huh. That strikes me as an odd statement, what makes you feel it’s a typically male pursuit? All of the literary type porn I found at home was definitely my mom’s, and definitely were not romance novels. The video porn was also apparently aimed at a female audience, so I assumed it was hers, and though the Playboys were addressed to Dad, I saw both parents reading them. It wouldn’t have occurred to me as a kid that porn was “Dad’s” realm, I just thought it was an adult hobby or interest in general.
And I’m female, and my closest childhood girlfriends and I traded written porn and shared our parent’s and older siblings porn stash on the regular. My male friends appeared to have about the same access and interest.
I was about 7 when I accidentally found my bio-father’s porn stash. IIRC it was Hustler, lots of up-close coochie shots. I understood what it was, but it kind of freaked me out. Like a 7 year old kid wants to know that about her father!
My father loved men’s magazines and was not shy about leaving copies lying around the house.
Ah, yes. That and “Clan of the Cave Bear.” I was also ten-ish.
Oddly, I can’t remember the first visual porn I saw. I suppose it didn’t make much of an impression.
In every instance of finding mags or videos at my friends’ houses as a kid, it was always the dad’s. Or at least hidden with other dad stuff.
I guessed 12, altho it might have been at 11 or 13. I was babysitting for the couple across the alley from where I lived. The man subscribed to Playboy and I paged thru a couple of them. Considering it was in the 60s, I’m guessing it was probably pretty mild compared to what’s out there today.
I was in my 30s when I saw my first porn movie - a sanitized version of Debbie Does Dallas at a drive-in in Jacksonville, FL. Then my husband borrowed some porn movies from some friends and we watched then - I thought they were pretty stupid. It was difficult not to MST3K them. I’m pretty sure I’m not the target audience.
Six. Playboy magazines. One friend’s dad had a subscription. Another friend’s parents left one out on their coffee table so they could act cool and show people they were intellectually mature.
I guess since I only saw women toting romance novels around, and some of my friend’s moms had some really raunchy novels on the shelves, I assumed that men preferred pics, women preferred writing, but for some reason guessed that videos were for couples.
I remember very distinctly looking at a friend’s dad’s Playboys when I was 8 or so. The picture I remember was a woman wearing only a very small yellow slicker, with an umbrella, in a garden or something. I was like, “Why would you be wearing a raincoat, but nothing else?” I suppose I knew generally that we were doing something “naughty,” but any sexual titillation factor really didn’t translate for my practical grade school brain!
ETA, by the time I was 10 or 11, we were reading the juicy parts of Valley of the Horses in the back of the bus. By then I definitely got what it was all about.
I’m not sure how old I was when I discovered that people posed for naked pictures in magazines, willingly, but it might have been around 10 or younger. And that was as opposed to looking at naked boobies in National Geographic. I know I was about 12 when my friend pulled out his dad’s stash of really raunchy porn mags one day at his house- transsexuals, gang bangs, gay porn, lesbian stuff, etc. We just sat in my friend’s room paging through magazine after magazine, and I can only speak for myself but I’m sure we both had raging hardons.
It was pretty advanced stuff for 12 year olds, but I know I had seen the standard-issue Playboy and Penthouse pictorals before that.
This was in the late 70’s. In the mid-80’s when we got cable, I was introduced to my first movie nudity.
I voted under 10, but that was softcore. Playboy, topless pin-ups, that sort of thing.
As for hardcore, that would have had to have been more like 12-13 years old, something in that range.
I voted 10, but if we’re counting Playboys (I didn’t, as the OP instructed us to define porn for ourselves) then it would be 6, when I first went to visit my Dad after he wasn’t living with my mom anymore. There was a stack, literally, three feet tall of Playboys next to the toilet. It wasn’t an oversight or anything; they were there until the day he sold the house, and my stepmom and brothers and I all used that bathroom pretty regularly. I never had any doubts as to why people liked to look at naked women, although I preferred the cartoons.
I think I found my first Penthouse and a Hustler (in my older brother’s room) around age 10, and that I *would *qualify as pornography. As well as my first lesson that what gets your nethers tingling in print isn’t always something you’d actually like to try in reality!
Under 10. German grocery and convenience stores back then (and probably still now) don’t hide or cover up their porn magazines, and the cover photos are about as explicit as American centerfolds.
First time I actually looked through one was in 8th grade when I was babysitting for a neighbor and found the dad’s stash of Playboys. I babysat for them a good bit, and one time when the kid I was watching was supposed to be asleep he suddenly wandered into the room and started yelling at me that I wasn’t supposed to be looking at “daddy’s magazines”. (I thing he was 3 or 4 years old at the time.) I shushed him up and put him back to bed, but I always wondered if he told his parents!
Depends on the definition of pornography. I don’t consider Playboy photos to be such, particularly in the 50s/60s, when all one saw were naked breasts. Porn to me is penetration or oral. The first time I saw that sort of activity was when I was 21 in Vietnam. The Korean contractors showed porn films when paid to do so.
I was seven or eight the first time I found some dirty magazines in the dumpster of our apartment complex (not a lot of supervision back then, we did a lot of dumpster diving for goodies.)
I believe there was a Hustler with a photo spread of a female member of the Navy being shown a good time by two other seamen (insert your own joke here).
The other magazine was called something like “Fucks Up” and included a rather disgusting photo spread of a guy pulling shit out of a woman’s ass. At least that’s what is scarred in my brain to this day.
Ever since I was very young (like 6 years old) I’ve done everything I could to get a glimpse of naked ladies and fantasized about seeing them topless.
I’m probably not normal.
I was about 10 when my sister and I found our stepdad’s stash of Playboys and thought it was the scandal to end all scandals.
