How Shall I Address You?

I’m Tick-ee, not Tee-kee. My name is derived from my Finnish grandmother’s maiden name and since Finland is about as far from Polynesia as one can get, has nothing to do with the islanders’ set of gods, torches or huts. Also, they generally use one ‘k’ in the spelling instead of two.

Silenus, just recently I was wondering what your name meant and so went a’Googling. I came across that very page! Among others, of course. Makes me realize that my knowlege of Greek mythology isn’t what it could be. Do you have any recommendations on books on the subject I could delve into?

brachyrhynchos, I was just thinking yesterday that I hadn’t noticed your name lately. We had a nice discussion in a thread about crows a year or so ago. I’m glad to see you’re still around!

Mine is Raguleader, pronounced Raa (as in Rat) Goo (as in goop or sloop) Leader (as in Leader).

That said, I’ll also answer to “Rags” and “Hey you, in the shirt!”

Sorry. I didn’t think that maybe this is thread hijacking until I posted it. :smack: Oh well, as you were everyone.

Mine is pretty easy. It’s jayke-line, not jack-el-inn or jack-uh-line. However, jake-uhl-ine is also acceptable. It’s based on a purposeful mispronounciation of my name.

The “L” in my username is silent.

It is pronounced “clo-ver”

My initials are SHM and I am of Irish heritage and my birthday is Feb 27th - clever, no?

But, you can just bow and call me “Your Majesty” if you prefer.

hahaha

Anybody have trouble pronouncing my username? I thought not.

But to answer the OP:

It’s pronounced “main-gee trout”. Don’t let him try to tell you otherwise.

Cyn is sin is Cyn

Where the heck is Mangetout lately anyway? I was really hoping to hear from him!

Heh. Reminds me of a time when a friend was telling the restaurant host what name to put down (mine). “Gwen, G-w-e-n-o-r-t, but the o-r-t is silent.”

Mine is gee-gee like it looks, but I am thinking of changing it to geegaw, the name I always should have had!
