How to be politically correct thread

Use this thread to post updates on what we’re supposed to be saying vs. what we used to say.

First example which I just learned about today:

Piers Morgan said “gay bar” apparently that’s now a no-no. We’re just supposed to say “bar” now.

It must be exhausting to be so offended all the time.

All I’m getting from the story is 3 people on twitter questioned it. You can’t please everyone. I would expect a person like Morgan who likes to stir up hornet’s nests to have some followers who do the same anyway.

Political Correctness hysteria wore itself out decades ago. Might as well joke about horse and buggy whips for the same amount of relevance.

Piers Morgan should be shit on after every post or tweet or other interaction just on general principles. What an asshole that guy is.

8:52 AM. In a [del]retard[/del] Adaher thread. Hey, this PC stuff works.

I think the term “gay bar” could be a helpful descriptor in some circumstances but I’m not sure why it’s relevant to Mr. Morgan’s situation.

No shit. How people can find the time and energy to correct people in world in how to talk, behave, and act must wear a person out. Yet they always find more, and in fact seem almost energized by it.

Do you have some sort of alert set up to tell you when you need to be offended by something?

I have a sneaking suspicion it’s going to be used to demonstrate what an idiot you are about such things.

Agreed. How do you find the energy? It must be exhausting, personally, looking for all these examples of supposed political correctness, or “SJWs”, or other such behavior you find inappropriate, and explaining how wrong it is. Or are you one of those who is energized by it?

Right-wing political correctness is a full time job. Probably the only one Hewey has ever had.

This.

that aside, I don’t believe “outrage culture” is any bigger than it has been at any time in the past. They just didn’t have FB, Twitter, etc. to complain where everyone could see it.

Why do you think three people complaining on twitter determine “what we’re supposed to say”? Did someone appoint them the speech police while I wasn’t looking, or are you overreacting to a non-news story about some dumb internet comments?

There is an irony here with this statement. Case in point: my aunt was describing an encounter she had with a fellow bus passenger. She paused at one point, looked uncomfortable, and whispered to me, “he was black, is that right?” I was confused by the question, so I asked her what she meant by “is that right?” She replied, “I think African-American is still used, but I’m not sure. I didn’t want to offend you. What’s the acceptable term now?”

She was honestly concerned and unsure at the same time. This got me thinking about other people who have no clue what the acceptable euphemisms are. I imagined that there must be some sort of master list that is updated somewhere, but it can get confusing. Maybe news programs could introduce one acceptable term at the end of their broadcasts; kind of like how O’Reilly would display a new vocabulary word at the end of his program (when he was still on the air).

I realize my story is purely anecdotal, but is my aunt in the minority here? Maybe it would be beneficial to broadcast what’s acceptable to say these days for people that genuinely want to be proper and not offend other people.

No. Read for comprehension.

No one is saying you can’t describe a venue as a gay bar. That in itself is no different than a sports bar, a biker bar, or any other way to differentiate this place from others like it.

The Tweeters are questioning why world class douchebag Piers Morgan felt obliged to mention it was a gay bar. He certainly would never think to state they were at a martini bar.

The description adds no relevant information to his night out but he is an asshole.

Snowflakes gonna snowflake.

About all things.

So I’m guessing this thread won’t really advance that much further pending another RWW (right wing warrior) post of outrage.

I’ll keep it going myself if I must! This is not a duty I take lightly!

And also, I’m not outraged about it. No one fired Piers Morgan over it(yet). Just bemused, and it is useful to know this stuff for survival reasons.
