I wound up with a few goodies (I guess) in D2, and didn’t know how to sell them off, or for that matter, how to buy things. Being pretty new on the D2 online scene, I made the mistake of asking people in chat if they were up for a trade or something. I was hoping (at the time) to grab Sigon’s Complete Steel greaves item to go with my SCS Guantlets, for the improved speed and magic find.
Ah, not a good reaction. I think the nicest thing they said was “n3wb”. So I shrugged and went back to continue to massacre.
Anyway, I recently found both Blastbark and VIdfala’s Barb. How do I sell these items? How can I find out what’s a “fair” trade for them? Is there any bloody way to get a decent 3-socket Paladin Shield?
Yeah, the kids in D2 chat are pretty childish. Most of them are actual children, I think. You could try the trade forums here, but they use a lot of jargon that I don’t get. I was a major D2 addict years ago, and am just getting back into it with the announcement of D3. I used to trade a LOT - just hanging in the (now-dead, apparently) trade channels on Bnet and announcing my wants or trades. I have been able to acquire a Homunculus last week just by asking in regular chat - it cost me 9 Pgems, which may or may not be a fair price, but it was fine for me. Just do what you’re doing, and you’ll eventually be successful.
I am a few years out of playing D2, but I used to spend as much time trading as I did playing.
The stuff you are looking for is pretty worthless. Sigon’s drops like candy, so if you farm enough bosses, you will have no problem collecting the entire set. I only kept around one complete set to twink my low levels, so although I was trading high end runes all the time, I would not typically trade Sigon’s. I wouldn’t even pick it up if it dropped.
The Vidala set is also completely worthless. Keep it on a mule if you are a collector, or just vendor it otherwise. Unless something has massively changed since I was an Enigma-packing addict, you won’t even get an El rune for a Vidala piece.
An elite socketed paladin shield is actually not a worthless item. Browse through the battle.net game names. I used to spend a lot of time in games called “Trading Post”, “We Trade Here”, “ISO X”, where ISO means “in search of”.
If you want to find a socketed pally shield, the easiest way to do that is probably cowing.
It’s pretty sad how obnoxious the people on D2 are- that’s the single worst feature of the game for me. Sigon’s is one of the only pre-expansion set items to have any value, and even so, it’s mostly good only through Normal (I did have a Paladin do very well using just the gloves and belt through Nightmare, but that’s an exception, and not an especially flattering one). The Vidala’s piece is pretty worthless; the bow in that set has rather low damage, making the rest of it kind of weak. The boots are OK for a low-level.
Just keep going through games with names like “trading post” or “tradez” or whatever. Ask, and if no one has it, leave and find another. Your best bet for getting it would be a couple common runes or some gems. The fact is that not too many people would save Sigon’s, though. Good luck!
Oh, I don’t actually want Sigon’s anymore. Overlevelled for it.
I just haven’t had much luck finding what I need. I mean, I’m searching for just bout any decent socketed shield to use, and I just can’t find one. I keep running places which are supposed to drop them but nil.
http://www.diii.net/ was THE d2 site for me back in the day. They have (or used to have, its been years) great trade forums with honest people who won’t insult you no matter how low level the gear is. There’s character build forums, game play forums, pretty much all the D2 info you need is on this site.
Trading with random people on bnet was always one of the experiences I hated the most. After a certain point, lower level uniques became almost worthless for trading. Sigons is easy to farm if you can kill the bosses in normal.
Most people make a magic find character to farm items. Sorcs are good for the powerful spells and teleport (which can go through walls). Load up on equipment which gives a bonus to finding magical items, and pick a boss. Kill boss, go to a new game, kill boss again, repeat until you find some decent stuff.
