How to repair internet explorer?

I tried to delete I.E because i didn’t want it. I only use chrome and like it. I even uninstalled firefox. Well the thing is when im in a program, i click on it to open a page and instead of it opening up on chrome… it opens up with internet explorer. Problem with this is it never opens and always freezes. Theres no way to get around this. I then checked my program files and dont see internet explorer there which meant i uninstalled it. So i then installed it again. Problem is when i click on it… it doesn’t work. It basically freezes everytime and never works. I don’t care about IE but my problem is some program that i use… i have to click on it to go to my account settings for a program and it uses IE everytime to open.
Can someone tell me how to repair internet explorer? I use windows 7 64 bit home premium. I also am not sure what version of IE i downloaded but its either 8 or 9?

You can’t really ever uninstall IE. You can delete the shortcut but it still lives on in your system, haunting it.

You probably have malware affecting your copy of IE. It likely lives in an addon bar or some such nonsense and so survives between installations.
You can, however, try:

  1. Changing default program from IE to Chrome: Windows help & learning

  2. Running IE in Safe Mode

  3. reinstalling (or installing a new version).

You can’t eliminate IE from Windows. You can uninstall, but it will still be there. If you selected Chrome as your default browser that’s what should open from clicking on a link. There’s an icon with 3 horizontal lines on the top right of Chrome. Click on that, select settings from the menu, and there should be a button to make Chrome your default browser. To fix IE search on ‘upgrade IE’ and go with the latest version, it should be version 10.

Edit: Good point about the malware from Reply. In IE click on tools (the gear on the top right) then Manage Add-ons, turn them all off.

To repair it, reinstall it. Install the highest version you can. You don’t have to use it for browsing. Windows Update or Microsoft Update may not work while it is in a damaged state.
Or less damaged than it is normally.

You cannot fully remove the Undead thing because it is part of the operating system. They had a bit of fuss over this a long time ago.

Chrome is already my default browser…
