How to throw a party! - A 12-step MMP

I don’t know what I’m doing up so late! LOL Yes, I do - I fell asleep around 9 PM, after turning the tv to On Demand and selecting Tora!Tora!Tora! to watch. If you’ve never seen this movie, it’s really quite good; it’s an historically accurate account of the events that led up to the attack on Pearl Harbor, told from both the US and Japanese sides. I did make it through the first half hour, but was a bit tired, and once I lay down on my bed, that is often the prelude to sleep for me. Usually.

My son, the text messager, is currently without his cell phone, it having been turned off because he owes them money. I had agreed to make payments on his cell phone bill, to the tune of $100/month, but had explicitly told him that I could not afford to pay any more. And I told him several years ago that he needed to get a handle on his text messaging; I tried to explain that it is how the cell phone company makes the most money. We’re going to make a payment for him tomorrow, but I don’t know if it will be enough to turn the phone back on. :frowning: For myself, I have the pay-as-you-go phone - it doesn’t have a camera in it and TMK does not do text messages, but it works well enough for me.

ETA: Oh yeah, first on 11!

Terra does he have some kind of text package? If he’s paying per message, it’s much more expensive than if you have a package that has 250 messages for 5$. I’m pretty sure that all of the companies have some packages. This could save a lot of money.

Mornin’ Noonie!!!

Coffee has been consumed. I’m still groggy.

But I found a few pronouns – they were under the sofa cushions all that time…!
**Tarra **-- how old is your son? It’s ridiculous in either case ($100/month not enough for the phone bill?), but if’s he’s pre-teen the approach has to be different than if he’s a teen-ager.

Standard disclaimers, IMO, YMMV – if he’s 11-12 or so, just lay down the law. Take him off the post-paid contract and get him a pre-paid with $100 top-ups on the 1st of every month.

If he’s a teen-ager, let him keep the contract, but make sure he’s aware that you will not bail him out when he goes over and gets disconnected. He can either talk/text less, or get a job (a paper route or somesuch) that will allow him to pay the difference.

And yes, in either case, shop around for a better contract!

'Night, Mousie!

Mornin’ folks! At work, pretending again! Nothing to add, except I hurt my ankle somehow yesterday and have nasty, housewife hands today after all my spring-cleaning! I slathered Vitamin E cream all over my hands last night before I went to bed, but I think all that achieved was greasy sheets! :smack:

Unfortunately, my son is not even a teenager any more; he’s 20 and will be 21 later this year! (he’s a junior in college.) He’s got a text message package, but continually goes over his allotment! And that’s how he ends up owing so much. Right now, he also does NOT have a job, because he’s “too busy with school and playing basketball.” Well… I’m still going to pay the $100/month for his phone, but he’s going to have to get his priorities straight on his own. He either needs to get the “unlimited texts” package, or cut back on the texts he send/gets. I’m NOT paying any more (I can’t afford to!).

Blasted cell phones and their texting!!! And yes, I’m -still- awake!!! I need to get back to sleep, but maybe that cup of coffee I had earlier has something to do with that.

Today, we take our darling daughter to the airport and she heads south. <sigh> But it was a good weekend. She got her interview, despite the Job Fair being canceled due to weather. She wrote thank-you notes to her interviewers and they should get them on Monday - that should impress them, right? She and I ordered the tableware for the wedding (PURPLE!!!) and mostly ironed out the menu. She got the stock she needs for the invitations, and they’ll be going out about mid-March. We got the vases and the silk flowers for the centerpieces, and we discussed favors.

We also discussed the wedding itself, and some things she needs to square away with her future mother in law (like details of the rehearsal dinner) as well as the stuff she and I will be doing when I go to Orlando for spring break. And we talked about the “apartment” we’re going to build for them in the basement. We’ll need future spousal input, but we mostly agree, in essence.

And, of course, we got the pics taken and ordered - one of the 3 of us, one of my sweetie and me, and one each of parent with child. They’ll be in Mar 14, I think.

We’ll be out of here shortly after 8, and we’re going to have breakfast in Annapolis on the way to the airport. MamaTigs, you will have our omelettes and waffles ready when we get there, right?

OK, no need to have a heart attack. We’re going to a diner to eat, then head up I97 to BWI. We need to get her there by 11-ish for her 1240 flight. Then **FCD ** and I have to run a few errands before coming home to finish our weekend.

**Snowbunny ** - way cool about volunteering with the kittehs! Once our life settles again, I may see about giving some hours to the tri-county shelter if they can use me. Although it may be a year before things settle here.

**tarra ** - you’re way more indulgent than I am. My daughter is slightly older than your son, and there’s no way I’d be paying for her text addiction. Not that it’s an issue - she and her fiance are on a “family plan” and they got the unlimited texting with it. Anyway, it’s none of my business, but if he was my son, he’d be dealing with his own excesses. He’s an adult - about time he starts acting like one. OK, I’ll mind my own business now.

I’m awake.

snowbunny, volunteering at the shelter sounds like an AWESOME idea. Good for you! Sadly, I would not last 2 hours there with my allergies. A-choo!

You make that sound… ominous

“I have awaken! Feel my wrath, puny humans!!!”

Morning. Looks like I will be working today.

I’m awake too, hopefully not for long.

I’m awake, too. Fell asleep really early, woke up a couple of times, but was able to fall asleep again.

Sorry your baby has to go home again, FCM. Sounds like you got lots done, though. (And, yay for the interviews!)

I refuse to include text messages in my cell phone package. Of course, that’s only because I don’t currently have anyone enthusiastically texting me. I imagine that will change once my niece and nephew have phones.

Your volunteer gig sounds like fun, snowbunny. Pics of baby kittehs would be awesome.

Is it just me, or has our hostess been scarce the last couple of days? ::Looks around for Haze::

You’re up for tomorrow, right, Shadow?

Off to have breakfast…then more clean-up…then church.

GT

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffienated here. Time to get purtified for churchification.

Later Y’all!

I have the flu.

dies

She’s around (posted last time a little before 1 AM this morning, her time) – she’s just boycotting us

:Kneels and grovels: Haze! Please come back…!!

**Spaz **-- Please don’t die! :frowning: Check your CD drive; I’m sending you some chicken soup

Don’t die on the floor, at least die in bed, okay? Have some consideration for the rescue workers who will have to drag your corpse out of the house. <sotto voice> Jeez. Some people are so selfish! <sv>

I’m up and have to take 2 very silly girls to breakfast. Being a hostess once removed is odd. Not bad–they’ve barely been home all weekend, just odd. And then I get to work at the library AGAIN. Only 68 more hours to go.
(and all for 2 hours of credit).

I was wondering where Haze has been, too. Haze, come back! All is forgiven!

That wasn’t nice to give me a heart attack, Moooom – you know I"m not a morning person! Especially since I’m staying up till all hours working on this %@*&@#$ transcript, anyway. The whole thing, all three days, was estimated by the idiots at the office at 550 pages; I’m on the 499th page, and probably have at least another 250 pages to go. Grr…it’s lots of $$, but frankly, right now I’d take sleep over $$!

Sorry for the sickies. Sending healing thoughts out, since I haven’t made chicken soup in so long you probably wouldn’t want to eat it even if I did make it!

You’re building FCDaughter and FutureSpouse an apartment in your basement, Moooom? What’s going to happen to ManLand? And your pottery workshop? And your fabulous laundry area? Or is there another whole section of your basement you were hiding when you showed me around FairyChatEstates? :dubious:

I’m here, caffeine is being consumed, and at least the sun is shining today. Further I cannot warrant. Back to the salt mines. Sigh.

Morning. gah.

More later.

Maybe.

And the prodigal daughter returns. (I find it amusing that Some1 wants me to forgive while** MamaTigs** tells me I’m forgiven … mixed messages here, people! )

Sorry for the scarce posting - I’ve been trying to get some work done this weekend and staying away from the MMP does help.

Anyway, still have work to catch up on, coffee to drink, and cats to feed, so this is a drive-by. Special hugs for McUne, and kisses to all who want them. I’ll be my usual chatty self by this evening, I’m sure.

Howdy all. I am feeling blah this evening. My day of doing bugger-all was a shoe-in right up until 4pm, when my boss called me to tell me those shtty documents I spent 3 friggin’ weeks on and sent out last week now need to be completely redrafted, because the lead bank for that facility forgot to mention some very specific needs they have in respect of the drafting. Oh and, by the way, they need the redrafts by the end of the week! Feckin’ bankers! There’s a reason banker rhymes with wnker! So I copy all the documents onto my flash-drive to bring home to start work on them tonight, print off hard copies and make a bunch of notes, then promptly leave the bloody flash-drive at work! GRRRRRRR!

On a happier note, I channeled my anger into cooking a very nicely turned out microwave mushroom and green pea risotto. 'Twas delicioso and hubby gave me some nice kisses as a thank you for his dinner!

Mornin’ all.

I’m up…though admittedly not by all that much. I’ve made muffins for breakfast, they were very good.

a hug to all
