Well, I don’t think so. There is a sort of inherent conservatism to things, where occupancy and control cause inertia. If Trump declares victory, and the courts back him up, then he remains (at least de facto) Commander in Chief. Biden has no authority to order troops to do anything.
Now, what course Biden would take in that situation is unclear, but I see him as more of a Gore than anything else. He would step asode to sustain the Republic. Trump may be counting on that.
Wouldn’t be needed. Two muscular Secret Service agents would suffice.
This.
DEEPER shit than we are now.
I’m not that worried, but the wife seems petrified. But for me, I feel Biden will win. I don’t want to be overconfident, and I do realize it’s not 100%, but I think it will work out.
That’s me. All considered I am cautiously optimistic at this point.
But even if I weren’t, I would try not to worry about it. At this point there’s literally nothing more to be done by someone like me and unproductive stress is worthless stress.
Hasnt worked so far.
My worry is a really close election, apparently won by Biden, so that trump will pull shit tricks, and there might even be a revolution.
What I hope to see is a Blue wave.
I am really really hoping that we can get (or that you’re wrong and we already are) in a state where the fate of global human civilization and the planet doesn’t hinge on conservative rural American voters.
Trump only has a 10 in 100 chance of winning the election, according to 538.
Life is good.
And before you tell me not to get complacent and vote, I voted 2 weeks ago.
Imagine there’s an asteroid headed toward Earth, and scientists said there was only a 10% chance that it would collide with the planet. Would you be comforted or worried?
We are in western Pennsylvania where increasingly there is talk of election violence. I was surprised Sunday when my gf asked me to show her how to shoot my 16 gauge shotgun.
So, I got it out from under the bed, unloaded it, and went over some basics. We then went outside, where I put an old 5 gallon bucket on a tree stump.
She was amazed by the noise, the force (her shoulder is bruised today), and the destructive power of the weapon. We’ve come to an agreement that, in the case of a violent encounter, I’ll do the shooting and she’ll cut up sheets and boil water.
I’m worried. Very worried.
I do, however, think Mark Kelly might win McSally’s seat in the Senate. That would be A good thing.
I’m extremely worried about the election because it is a toss up, and it shouldn’t be. This should be a Biden landslide in any sensible universe (maybe this is all simulated after all?). There’s no question if the Republicans win it will because of their assault on democracy, and if successful, then I see no reason for them to let up. Rather, they will use the next four years to absolutely ravage democracy in the USA.
Here’s a summary of the latest polling numbers breakdown from Chuck Todd on NBC news this morning about 1/2 hour ago (say what you will about him, he is a data-head):
Biden only needs one of the battleground states, and trump needs all of them, so on the surface that’s looking good.
But…Biden’s lead has tightened up to around 5-6 points in most of those battleground states, so it’s getting within the margin of error. If trump manages to take AZ, FL, OH, GA, NC, etc. and it comes down to Pennsylvania, because of that state’s vote counting process it will take days or weeks to get a proper count. Days or weeks in which trump will attempt to declare victory, and trump and his lawyers will stir up all kinds of mayhem. So if it comes down to PA, that is the worst-case, ugly, nightmare, scenario. Todd called that scenario “lawyer-palooza”.
So yeah, I’m worried.
I’m on an ACA exchange health insurance plan with a pre-existing condition. Very worried.
I would be a lot less worried if the police were not on the side of Trump.
I’m 90% fine, 10% terrified.
They often are. Back in 2010, the FBI had warned about white supremacists infiltrating law enforcement and its only got worse since then.
I learned a new concept this morning courtesy of the NYT–“defensive pessimism.” It’s when you’re terrified your side will lose, but deep down think they’ll win. That’s where I’m at and apparently it’s quite unhealthy–you get all the stress and very little of the hope.
That sounds like me exactly. So many things have gone wrong over the last few years that I feel shell-shocked.
