How would you improve yourself if you had $50 billion

How would you ‘improve’ yourself if you had $50 billion dollars.

How much more of a “better” person would you be.

For example: cosmetic surgery, tutors, enlightening experiences.

Aside from living costs, giving the money away, or spending it on anything which dosen’t make you a better person isn’t permitted.

I would retire from my job or go part-time, (if that were possible) and use a good chunk of the ensuing free time in prayer, confession, meditation, bible study, small group meetings, church attendance, singing worship songs, family (and extended family) time, time with friends and acquaintances and volunteer work.

I would also spend a lot more time on the SDMB!

There must be more which escapes me just now.

Ph D in French German and Russian.

Language immersion courses combined with world travel.

All the dental work I need to fix my teeth and jaw. (Bite me, TMJ!) That would include drilling capping, pulling of teeth, and the replacement of my right jaw joint.

I’d get my glasses again, since right now they’re way out of my price range. ($450 just for the lenses.)

I’d build myself a very nice gym, and use it daily. I’d also take daily yoga and tai chi lessons.

I’d enroll in every computer related class I can.

I’d do this, probably.

Yes, money can free up a lot of time, and sometimes, simple spirituality and communion with God and your fellow man can help you grow.

Do you mean you want to be taught those languages, and then study and publish academically using them.

Amongst the many things I’d consider myself. What places come to mind?

Wouldn’t you be able to afford lens implant surgery?

Screw classes, you could afford a 24/7 stable of pet geeks to teach you all you want to know.

With $50 billion, it would probably be more important to figure out where I didn’t want to go. But Spain, Japan and China come to mind in terms of places where I’d need/want to learn a language.

Quit my job, get a full medical work-up, get the teeth fixed and possibly the eyes too, and find a good therapist. Learn a few languages (French, German, Hungarian) and travel…

…actually, I don’t know what I’d do with that much money if I couldn’t use it to help other people. I’ve got friends and family in need right now, a child to raise, and a helluva lot of worthy charities I would love to support. I’d consider myself improved just by dint of philanthropy.

For the sake of the thread, don’t even think about giving it away, there are plenty of other threads about no-strings money

Hire people to help me do the things I can’t (or won’t) for myself: Full-time trainer and chef, personal assistant to handle my stuff and get the house in order–which would serve to unclutter my head too. Once that’s taken care of I’d put more of myself into my work, travel, and education.

Fine then. A Scrooge McDuck vault of gold coins to swim in it is.

Teeth are first on the list. I’ve wanted nice teeth all my life. Then, whatever skin treatments and non-surgical procedures that would improve my sun-damaged skin. And laser hair removal for all the places I currently pluck, shave, or epilate.

With that kind of money, a personal hairstylist to do my hair every day, and a personal trainer for getting my body toned up (maybe one who also does massages?), and a personal manicurist to do my nails for me (I hate doing my own) - no acrylic or long claws, but at least no more hangnails and chipped polish. And a personal chef to make nutritious, tasty meals that keep me from craving sugar. Oh, and a chiropractor - I know I’d be a lot better physically if I didn’t have back & joint pain all the time.

Oh, why not - a personal “concierge” physician, as well, to monitor my hypertension & hypothyroidism and everything else. I think I’ve covered everything.

I would take some culinary training. I’d also do some traveling. I want to see the New England area in the worst way.

I think I’d still open a deli, but it would be on the beach and probably not in California. I’d help all of my family in whatever way they wanted though.

I don’t think I’d have much of anything done cosmetically. I’m good with aging gracefully, but I’d have a good hair stylist. Some dental care, but not too major.

I am a strong advocate of walking every day for fitness. Between that and watching my food portions, I have been able to maintain a fairly healthy weight for several years. So, I’d love to set up a program that encourages this for other people, especially young people. I have inspired more than one 28 year old chubby girl to take up walking, so that would be cool to work on and help me too.

Oh, I’d learn to garden too. I’ve always wanted a cutting garden and fresh veggies and fruits and herbs right at my fingertips.

sigh, maybe in my next life.

How are you going to class that as bettering yourself?

Swimming is a very good cardio workout.

I’d get my teeth fixed. On the right side of my face they’re all crooked inward and don’t mesh up. I’d get lasik and this damned potbelly lipo’ed out. I’d also get the ol’ boys snipped since I don’t want any more inheritance mongers after my billions.

I’d go balls out with any hobby. Want to make beer? I’ll have a small brewery built in my backyard. Soapmaking? Buy lye and fats in bulk with a commercial license and get the vats going! Wood shop? You mean wood factory! Gardening? I’ll buy a plot of land big enough to drive a tractor on. Or hell, I’ll buy up a family owned farm with the stipulation I won’t ever make them go corporate as long as I get to be a farmhand whenever I want to.

Teeth? I could get my teeth completely redone with a hundred grand. And that’s being generous.

For $50 billion, I’m having wings installed.

Definitely a nice home gym and a trainer to help me get in shape. This would include an indoor pool and I would swim every single day. My teeth would get a total overhaul. I would travel a lot.

And face it… not having to go to work in a hell-hole every day nd having no financial worries would ease my mind emensely and make me more relaxed & easier to get along with.

Come on folks - it’s $50,000,000,000! Travel broadens the mind, but with that kind of cash, a private jet is first on the shopping list. Fly where you want when you want. If you want to stay in a hotel, book the whole top floor. Before you go, send the staff out so they can turn the hotel into somewhere nice to stay. Want to eat? Find some nice venues and hire Jamie Oliver and Mario Batali to cook.

I’d improve my yachting skills to the point where I’d be able to get in and out of just about any port in the world with my 300ft yacht.
