How'd I manage to do this to my phone? (Android)

So my phone dings letting me know I have a text message, but then after it dinged, a voice came on and said: “Message from Jane”.
Pretty cool feature, I didn’t know my phone could do that but I don’t know how I activated it. Part of a recent update maybe?

I’m asking in case I ever accidentally turn it off I can turn it back on again.
Thanks.

I’ve got a Note 3 and can’t find that feature. I can change the notification sound, but announcing the sender doesn’t seem to be an option.

Thanks Gary, interesting my phone announces some but not the others.
Too weird.

Does your phone have Smart Actions? On of the available actions is to announce callers and texters.

Smart Actions are activated by certain locations, activities, or states. You can program your own. Sort of a poor man’s Tasker.

On a Samsung, it’s turning on/off “Hands-free mode”.
Not sure if that’s the Samsung or the android name for it, though.

Thanks Spiderman.

My Samsung phone once started acting similarly. It turned out i had accidentally enabled
“Driving Mode” in the top drag down menu.
Best of Luck !

Yeah… I don’t need everyone around me to know who is texting me. I like that I can set message tones, so I know who it is without looking.

BF is sound of a race car; best friend is Addam’s Family sound; generic unassigned contacts is Sheldon Cooper doing his knock knock schtick.
