Reading the OP I am surprised they were so uncommunicative about his condition since it sounds like he was out of it enough that his care choices would fall to you to decide.
I dunno…regardless, glad to hear he is doing better.
All the best to you and yours and hoping he can go home with you soon.
Home would be good, but before that I want his stuborn butt in Mary Free bed. They had him in better shape then than I could have imagined he’d be. Maybe they can convince him to stay on the correct dietary guidelines for his swallowing issues. I do not want to ever see him like this again.
Well, he’s supposed to move out of ICU today, but they hadn’t moved him yet when I left about 3pm. He was much more alert though pretty confused and being pissy.
He kept telling me to take him home and that Dr. Yang told him he could go home. There is no Dr. Yang there. Apparently Dr. Zacharia told him he was getting out of ICU. He would get really mad when I told him he was too sick to go home. He also wanted ice chips. He can’t have them because when therapy was working with him he choked on everything.
They got him out of bed to stand for a couple of min. that is real progress, and nice 'cause his legs were achy. Anyway, he’s getting better, and I think they’re going to try to get him to Mary Free bed when he’s well enough.
Sorry I missed this thread the first few times around.
Though I’m glad to see I came into it at a point where we’ve moved into the hopeful stage.
Just adding another round to the best wishes for you and yours and “well done” for keeping yourself from getting hurt or ill from self-neglect or over-exhaustion.
Picture me sitting next to you, holding your hand, and sharing my strength.
Having Mr VOW in the hospital has always kicked me sideways.
All suggestions have been outstanding. For me, having my daughter by my side, taking over as his advocate, has been priceless. I’m profoundly hearing impaired, so I miss a great deal,of what goes on. With her next to me, I know her daddy will get the best care.
Although I hope you never find yourself in the same situation, next time call 911 and have the EMTs do the lifting, the carrying and the transporting. That is what they are trained to do. Your husband will get medical care during transport, and he will be taken to the best hospital for his emergency.
Mary Freebed is the best there is in rehabilitative care. He was there once for a couple of weeks and he came out so much better than before he became sick. The pt and ot that were with him today were very much in favor of him going there.
I guess I should have been more clear about what Mary Free Bed is, but it’s so well known and respected here that I dropped the ball. Sorry about that.
You have a lot on your mind. It’s easy to forget your “neighbors” here live all over the world. You have no idea where most of them live and they have no idea where you live either.
A bit of a setback today. They called me at 5am to tell me his hemoglobin had dropped quite a bit and they wanted me to give permission for blood products. He apparently wasn’t alert enough to consent. When we got here today he was back on bi-pap because his oxygen was dropping. That seems to have cleared up, but he’s back to being more confused and they aren’t sure why his blood count won’t recover even with blood. The hemotologist is researching and his right leg is pretty swollen compared to his left. Dr. feels he might have blood there or possibly some bleeding from a pretty large bruise on his bottom. This set back is demoralizing.
I feel sure they’ll figure out why he is losing hemoglobin. Don’t look it up. It’s all kinda scary
Just take the info the doc provides. (Unless it seems blatantly bad)One step at a time. Deal with them one by one.The mind can only deal with what it can deal with.
