There are so many things that can go wrong when it comes to human reproduction. This kind of collection of pictures reinforces that – and how lucky we are when things turn out all right after all.

Odd how there’s all these pictures of medical oddities and deformities, and then towards the end there’s a chick with really long hair. What’s deformed about really long hair?

It’s just odd and rare. Only a small percentage of people can grow their hair that long, even if they went for years without cutting it, which I have done, and the longest it got was just past my shoulders.
I’ll try to find a cite on the extremely long hair growth.
(And the doctor who fashioned the other chick’s ear out of rib cartilage should have been a sculptor. That was amazing!)

Wow. I have never looked at a photo and immediately felt sorry for the subject of that photograph, to the extent i did when i saw the pics of that poor sonofabitch with the huge facial tumors. i sure hope whatever treatment he’s undergoing is successful – nobody should have to go through life looking like that. Not to mention how inconvenient it must be to have to hold up ten or twelve pounds of loose face just to get a bite to eat or have a smoke.

In the scheme of the other pictures, the pretty blonde girl with an almost-non-existent ear comes across as slightly petty, relatively speaking; while I can’t imagine not having an ear myself, her problem pales in comparison to people with facial tumors weighing twenty pounds, and a kid born with two faces, etc.
I’m not taking any of her pain away from her–or any sympathy–but I find her inclusion in that series of pictures a bit odd.
As for the rest of the pictures and stories…I hope it makes sense when I say that pictures like this are one of the reasons I don’t want kids.
Because I don’t know how I could deal.

The woman with long long long hair makes me want to keep growing my hair out to see how long it could get (waistline, currently). And I’ve always really liked the look of large coiling bun hairstyles. Probably not worth it, though.
