Well, if anyone out there was disappointed to discover that your new Humax Tivo DVD recorder will not record shows transferred from another Tivo to DVD, I have news: Yes you can.
Of course, it’s quite a pain in the ass logistically, so you should be prepared for that…but if you have something on your old Tivo that you really wanted to get recorded on your new Tivo, all it takes is tricking the new DVD recording Tivo into thinking that your old Tivo is a VCR or a camera. Run RCA composite cables from the old output to the new input, and you are in business. It’s a bit of a fumble getting it all to work properly (an unexpected glitch was the fact that the one Tivo remote was controlling both Tivos simultaneously, which is not at all what I wanted, requiring me to physically place one of them on the coffee table and holding the remote right next to it to avoid changing the other one…sheesh.), but technically its actually very simple.
So up yours, Humax and Tivo! Hrmph!
