Humorous and insightful quotes

I love quotes that are insightful, funny and succinct.

One could say: “People often assume that the government should be able to use common sense to implement policies to help address the country’s problems. But the lawmaking and policy-making process is complex and the obvious solution is not always the best, and could come with unintended consequences.”

Or one could say: “Too bad that all the people who really know how to run the country are busy driving taxi cabs and cutting hair.” -George Burns

I love that quote, and would love to hear similar ones.

Not exactly similar, but I always liked James Thurber’s statement, “All people can be divided into two groups: 1. those who divide people into two groups, and 2. Those who don’t.”

The quote currently on my classroom whiteboard is “The first sigh of love is the last sigh of wisdom.”

One of my favorite quotations is Samuel Johnson’s "Almost all absurdity of conduct arises from the imitation of those whom we cannot resemble.”

In other words, people never act more crazy when they are trying to be something they’re not…

“When I started out, I had the choice of playing the piano in a whorehouse, or being a politician. I don’t think there is very much difference.” - Harry Truman
