Hunter Biden wins Nobel Prize

Well, almost.

I can’t believe this isn’t the headline on every news page in the world. It’s got “technically true” written all over it, and that’s a lot closer to an actual fact that most of what we read these days.

The World Food Program won the Novel Peace Prize. It’s run by the United Nations, but has offices in 80 countries, each with its own board and committee of VIPs. The current overall executive director is a former Republican governor of South Carolina named by Trump, so some voices out there are saying that Trump won his Nobel Prize after all.

But there’s a twist. A wonderful twist. The current Chair of WPS USA is Randy Russell, president and partner of The Russell Group, an agricultural and food consulting firm.

But do you know why preceded him? Hunter Biden. Skittering around the Internet, I’m finding that he was the Chair from 2013-2019, IOW the time that the WPS was doing all the good stuff that won them the Nobel Prize.

Most of the commentary is coming from fairly weird sites but the evidence is clear and Joe Biden has talked about it. Hunter Biden deserves credit for the Nobel Prize more than Trump.

Why isn’t everything talking about it? Do they just not want to remind people that Hunter Biden exists? Wouldn’t rubbing this in Trump’s face be worth it? You know his head would explode if a reporter asked him about it in a press conference.

First COVID and now this. The irony index has never been higher.

I misread the OP’s thread title. I was hoping for the Nobel Peace Prize to go to Joe Biden, just for NOT being Donald Trump, kind of like how Barack Obama won for NOT being George W Bush.

I kind of wish they had given the Nobel Prize to Joe Biden (or Hillary Clinton) just to see Trump’s head explode.

Is the Novel Peace Prize the one Trump’s going to get for his handling of COVID-19?

Well, Trump has signed his name to more than a dozen books of fiction he’s never read. That might qualify him for the Literature Prize. Or, in memory of Stan Lee, a No-Prize.

I imagine it’s because parsing the news right now is like sipping from a firehose. Maybe the Lincoln Project could do something with it. They’re pretty good at hitting his sore spots.

I mean … the way the right wing talks about Hunter Biden it’s like he was a good for nothing basement dweller until his dad became Vice President of the United States. Which is not at all true. For starters he was already about 40 years old when the Obama-Biden ticket was elected, secondly he was the son of a US senator so connections and opportunities were there (as with the children of the 99 other US senators and everyone else working in Washington), and thirdly he went to Yale. Combine those factors then suddenly a different impression can be drawn. All of this stuff happened prior to his dad becoming vice president and any of the personal demons that derailed his life.

He was Chairman of the Board of Directors for World Food Programme USA, a fundraising feeder program to the World Food Programme, which is what won the Nobel Prize. As much as I’d love to shove that down 45’s throat, sadly it’s not what I had hoped.

That’s next year. They have to make sure Biden gets elected first.

I thought I made that clear in the OP, but perhaps I was being too sarcastic for the point to come through.

I just love the irony that Hunter Biden has a closer connection to this year’s actual Nobel Peace Prize than Trump has outside his dreams. We should applaud anybody who is responsible for doing this good work, even if in a figurehead position. That Trump has been crowing about his meaningless nomination (tens of thousands of people are eligible to nominate) is as odious as everything else he does and even a figurative comeuppance like this is reason to smile.

You may have made it clear, and I was too lacking in coffee to comprehend. But you are right, the fact that HB is one degree separated from the Nobel Peace Prize, just as Joe Biden was, makes my day a little brighter.
