Yeah that was pretty retarded.
I should have qualified it by saying it was humorous in comparison to his other quotes, but I was trying to be kind.

That’s some low-grade ore.
Look, Prudence (or Temperance, or whatever your RL Puritan/patrician name is), nobody anywhere said you had to cuss or insult to be funny, or that the Pit was a comedy tryout. You made the dumb-as-hogshit statement that people who swear or use words like “retarded” are “soft-minded”, which I’m sure is something you heard from your mom or one of your professors and took as a universal truth; I merely pointed out that you’re wrong, and intelligent people quite often use such words. Try to spin it so you don’t come out looking like a broad-brushing pollyanna all you want, but it won’t change the truth. Man, I’m beginning to wonder if Giraffe didn’t hit the nail on the head with his little joke.
Was it racist for the GOP person to throw peanuts at a black camera-person and call her “animal”? That’s the thread where Lance Strongarm caught my eye. He kept insisting the act was likely non-racist.
I estimate the chance of a racism connection as somewhere between 98.5% and 99.9%.
I did the special click-click and was going to excerpt his posts from the thread to show how repetitious they were … but Mr. Strongarm had 62 posts in that thread, almost one-third the total.
I did a :smack: :smack: toward the end when Mr. Strongarm admitted, after all, that the act was “probably racist.”
So which is a better guess of the racism odds, Lance? 98.5% or 99.9% ?
Haven’t read the thread, but my first thought was that the “animals” reference was to the target being a member of “the media”, which to a particularly ignorant Republican (that is to say, a Republican) means “lamestream” and liberal and anti-Republican and whatnot.
Hmmm… what if he goes old school brazil84 and starts calling ignoring someone ‘banning’? How far would a standard response of “ban me” go?
FWIW, woodstockbirdybird, I agree with Sitnam that a pitting can be funny and of high quality and lack cuss words. There’s nothing wrong with cussing and there’s nothing wrong with not cussing. But, for some of us, making every other word fuck turns what could have been interesting into something boring. So, relax.
As exemplified by the OP, right? RIGHT???!!
Don’t make me sic my twenty-seven cats on you.
Well, no shit. I doubt any sane person would disagree with that. My problem was with his statement that cussing or using insults in a joking manner indicated the person doing so was de facto a moron (which I’ve already explained twice now). Which is itself a moronic statement - as evidence, I offer George Carlin, Louis CK, Neil DeGrasse Tyson (heard him say “fuck”, possibly even in the form of an insult, on the Ardent Atheist podcast the other day), and around 99% of all intelligent people everywhere. As for relaxing, I’m perfectly calm. Sleepy, even.
That’s fine, but there’s no one on the opposite side of that argument. Sitnam misunderstood my post, and then used it as a platform to bask in his superiority over his perceived inferiors. That’s what he’s getting shit for, not his (unremarkable) position that Pit threads don’t need some minimal number of cuss words to be acceptable.
::avoids eye contact::
Of course. I assumed the gentle nature of the pitting was because of the fact the author is used to scolding 2nd graders and merely fell into practiced habits.
Giraffe, Sitnam said only that an overuse of fuck is often a sign of a feeble mind. Not necessarily but often, so you can all calm down as I’m sure when you overuse fuck it is only in the most artistic of ways.
I’m starting to worry that, while I think I’m typing readable English, I’ve actually had a stroke and am just typing unreadable gibberish. Let’s do a reenactment to try to illustrate why Sitnam’s post was annoying.
LHoD: “Hey guys, let’s buy some white bread and distilled water and have a picnic!”
Giraffe: “This is the Society for Fine Cuisine and Creative Overeating! You call that a picnic?”
Sitnam: “Not everyone needs to drink ten beers to have a good time, you know. Some of us can enjoy each other’s company without being drunk.”
See, regardless of your position on alcohol, the way that conversation went down was annoying. Does that make sense, or should I call 911 about this stroke I apparently had?
I don’t see Sitnam’s assumption that you were referring to a lack of swearing as being all that much a non sequitur given the number of pit OPs I’ve seen that end with “and because it’s the pit: shit, piss, fuck, damn, poo.” or have an op that is basically nothing more than a string of curse words that is lauded by other posters as “inventive” and “inspired”
Please, your limited range of middle school expletives has hardly ‘given me shit’. If you have something better I’d love to hear it otherwise how about we go back discussing whether or not Lance should hush.
Well, that makes me sad then, because I hate “…and because it’s the Pit, shit fuck ass tits!” more than just about anything and have railed against it many times.

This I think you made up. You should have stopped with the top part.
The “scolding second graders” analogy is a lot closer. As I said, I don’t think Lance is a bad person. I’ve pitted other folks with vitriol and nastiness because they were acting, well, very naughty. But Lance didn’t deserve that. He was just being exasperating, so I consciously adopted the schoolmarmish tone because I felt like I was dealing with a kid who wandered onto the messageboard by mistake.
Read “hush up” ironically, see if that helps. If it doesn’t, there’s always the cat.
This thread was dumb, but now it’s super dumb. It really is this simple:
OP: Lance, you should shut up.
Giraffe: Weak.
Sitnam: Why, because the OP didn’t say “fuck” 1,000 times?
What Giraffe should have said: No, dumb shit, because it was boring as fuck.
I seriously don’t even know why Sitnam would assume the reason Giraffe thought the tone of the OP reminded him of a grandmother is because it lacked excessive swearing. I get my rant on all the time without dropping f-bombs. Okay, well I don’t, but many people do. The point is it’s not unheard of, and Sitnam is finding reasons to be smug where there are none.
So -er- Giraffe. Where is the proper place to discuss the posting habits of a fellow member without vitriol? With respect, your initial reaction was surprisingly lame. Or maybe I’m missing something. Confused! I hope you’re not implying that all discussions of our SDMB brothers’ and sisters’ online expressions must be acrimonious. That suggestion might ruffle my feathers.
