I heard on the news that Cheney was issued a warning by the <insert apprporiate game or police authority here>, if that’s what you mean.
Man, this piece of junk news is gumming up the works today. Chris Matthews, who normally has his priorities right, spent all but the last 5 minutes on this non-story. Apparently this was more important than the one other story he did cover-- a 5 minute interview with 3 Iraq war verterans running for office this year. And if you think Chris is fast and abrupt normally, you should’ve seen him try to squeeze into 5 minutes what probably would have been a 20 minute story any other day.
The best part of the Harball story was the interview was with Alan Simpson. Man, that guy just speaks his mind and doesn’t put up with bullshit. I remember thinking the same thing the last time CM had him on.
Oh, I know all about you dialysis nurses…sitting on your asses for 3-4 hours at a time, and talking trash about us floor monkeys. Yeppers…trying to backpedal now–I’m onto your game!
sorry for hijack. For the record, while not wanting anyone to die, it would be quite a comeuppance for Mr Cheyney if Mr Whittington did suffer a mortal injury. Perhaps that would shake him out of his perma-frost approach to fellow humans. Not a good way to either learn that or observe the lesson, but…I think that is what algothperson is trying to say, but I wouldn’t bet money on it.
The problem is, Slacker, that quote did not come for the AP. Don’t use the quote function for misattributions. If you want to parody or make a joke, do it outside quote tags.
The reason is that it carries an unusually misleading visual emphasis. Posters reading quickly–or maybe even carefully, but humor-impaired–can be fooled into thinking a fake quote is genuine.
For the sake of clarity, just keep pointed comments outside of quotes.
Here’s a contrary (to the White House/Mary Matalin version) opinion about the incident from Paul Begala.
I hadn’t known previously that Begala was either from Texas or an avid hunter. Like friend Diogenes, he similarly chafes at the euphamisms for “shot” that are being employed.
The way I see it, the Administration has committed about five bajillion wrongs, ranging from the mammoth (Iraq War) to the teeny (nukular). I don’t give a shit about things that fall in the bottom quartile. Cheney shooting a guy in the face by accident? Shit, he could have dug up Mother Teresa, violated her corpse, and shot a leper in the face and it’d still be in the bottom quartile.
Let’s keep focused on the big sins of the administration. Leave this petty shit behind.
Not true for ALL hunters. The ones I used to hang out with, never drank before or during hunting. They waited until they were done. Guns and alcohol don’t mix, ever. Like Moto already said, know the dangers, take the proper safety precautions, and never assume anything. I was taught a few basic things…
Be sure you know exactly what you’re shooting at before you fire. You may miss the shot, but then again you won’t have regrets later.
The most dangerous gun is the one you “knew” was not loaded. Lots of people have been killed by a gun they didn’t bother to check, because they “knew” it was not loaded and/or cocked.
Man, I thought I saw some live video footage of the Dick Cheney quail hunt on TV, but it turned out to be just a battle scene from “Saving Private Ryan.”
Oh, sure you don’t drink and hunt, neither does Mr. Moto or Uncle Beer. But there’s plenty of evidence that lots of people do. I’ll bet it’s mostly the sort of people who tend to have more accidents, too. Whaddya wanna bet?
No one has floated a conpsiracy yet about Rove orchestrating this accident to take the new focus off Iraq?
I can see the Cheney skit on Saturday night live, though. Some Sentor gets out of line in the Senate, and Cheney shoots him in the face. Or some reporter tries to pin him down on issues in Iraq… blam! in the face.
The reason this is a non-story is that no one will talk about this after next week, except maybe in comedy skits.
