Cheney had two drunk driving convictions back in the day, so yes, alcohol incidents are in his past.
I had intended to jump into this thread today to point out all the fucking spin that had been done about the victim being “peppered with birdshot”, yet being in ICU for several days.
My former BIL was in a “hunting accident” where the victim wasn’t even A. a member of his hunting party, or B. wearing balze orange.
He got convicted of a felony and spent a year in the County Jail.
As the proof of a negative is a dificult task, I will not ask you to support this statement; I will only note that you have no way in hell of knowing it to be true. Nobody? Ever?
As to the appropriateness of the comparison, if you would kindly demonstrate that, generally speaking, one’s actions as a child share equal weight with one’s actions as an adult, and specifically as an adult who is a “heartbeat away from the presidency”, I would be obliged.
I think this thread is hilarious. A hunting accident that wouldn’t even make the A section of a local newspaper in Texas if not for the VP, and you now have cover ups and Karl Rove thrown in the mix. Desperately grasping for some illegality, anything. How dare Cheney torture people on one hand and have a dude ranch hunt on the other. Oh the humanity. Halliburton probably owns the shotgun shell manufacturing company, or maybe the bandage company. Come on people, nobody has thought of that yet?
I see the Stevenson incident referred to mostly these days as a stark difference in attitudes of the public - he was playing w/a gun and a friend died, tragically. Sympathy abounded for him as well as the victims parents. It’s much more likely these days that even where there are “accidents” and some one dies, that the person behaving in a negligent manner is charged w/a crime. Drivers falling asleep at the wheel, stepping on the accelerator vs. the brake etc.
Maureen, did you not see the two posts above mine, both calling again for a cite as to who was wishing ill on Whittington? Yes, that’s why there was a “Right here…” before he was quoted. Understand now?
If your second comment too was directed at me then you’ve lost me, that being the one where you tell him to STFU and then presume to correct someone else for caring what he says.
My suggestion would be that you refrain from feeding him anymore.
He was a child. He was a minor. It was an accident. A responsible adult left a gun unprotected. Do these kinds of things result in criminal charges to the child nowadays?
Welll, fuckity-damn! Either Cheney was after Al-Quaila or he wasn’t. I personally ascribe to the theory that Cheney is innocent, that there was a second shooter behind the grassy knoll.
Now, don’t go confoozling us with the Vice President. WE didn’t shoot anyone … WE’RE not the Vice President for Torture.
Let me give you some free advice, you feckless little poo dollop you. I think the Bush/Cheney regime has done more harm to this country than most any other presidency before it, and likely any after. I’d like nothing more than for Gee Dubya to wander off to a farm in Montana to catch up on his goat book reading and leave governing to people who know what they’re doing, and have a sense of responsibility to the office of the president and to this great country.
But do I wish him harm? Of course not. He’s a human being, and he has people he cares about and people who care about him. I wouldn’t wish him anything more serious than a hangnail.
Here’s why that is important. People on this board can disagree with my about what Bush has done and is doing to the country, but at the end of the day, we can have civil discussions about it because regardless of politics, there’s more to life that brings us together as human beings than tears us apart. I want to live in a country where me, you, Cheney, and everyone else is as happy and successfull as possible.
When you spout the bullshit you’ve shat all over this thread, you shut down any hope of a civil discussion. You don’t want to live in the same country I’m talking about. You want to live in one where you’re happy and Cheney is dead. It’s fucking despicable.
Why don’t you do us all a favor and just make an OP entitled “i wish , the following people were dead…” so you can get the banning you’ve somehow eluded all this time.
I was researching this before Contrap’s post back, was going to come in and say "change this to ‘IMHO’ " instead. The specific case I had in mind has enough questionable crap in it that it’s not as clear as I would want it to be.
certainly the parents of the children have been prosecuted under those circumstances.
wait - here ] child and father both charged in accidental shooting
8 year old child “knowingly brought firearm to daycare” authorities alledgedly charged the kid so he could be “helped”. I work in human services. It seems to me that charges would be unnecessary in order to provide ‘help’ to the kid, it would be evident from the charges against daddy that the child’s environment was dangerous, needing intervention.
SO, we’re back to “yes” a child has been charged in an accidental shooting. I would assume that the quibble of “but not charged w/the actual shooting” won’t come out.
It comes up in standard biographies of the man, as one would expect. Many people who knew him believe his activism stemmed from the guilt that he suffered.
His papers include numerous references to the incident. He never sought to cover it up.
It’s been a few years since college (Criminal Justice major), but I think remember manslaughter is doing something reckless that you should have known could cause someone’s death. I guess technically about any hunting accident could loosely qualify, but I think a determination would have to be made that Cheney acted in a reckless fashion.
Yes, I understand. And the post prior to that was “well, obviously everyone feels this way, someone even said…”
I don’t understand why one fringe opinion is considered representative of the whole. No hive mind here, sorry.
