I am in despair

Redundant.

Well, we’ve still got Bobby Byrd, the fellow who literally wrote the book on Senate delay tactics. Of course, Byrd isn’t exactly the finest candidate to uphold a progressive social agenda.

Byrd, by the way, is an excellent example of the baggage a political party carries along with it over time. However, he’s also symbolic of a divergence in trends. There will be no more Democrat Byrds. I think the other side hasn’t quite rolled up the red carpet yet.

Lieu:

Could you please explain exactly when King George the lesser has ever shown the slightest bit of character or integrity. He’s never been caught cheating on his wife? Is that it? That gives him “character?” If not that then what?

Remember Viet nam? Remember how “immoral” Al Gore voluntarily put on a uniform and went over there. Remember how GWB ran like a fucking JACKRABBIT in the other direction? (“daddy, daddy, daddy, get me out of the war.”) Remember how got himself assigned to the “champagne division” of the National Guard, a division of other rich boys and politicos’ kids where he flew an obsolete airplane, basically guaranteeing that he would have no chance of seeing combat. Remember how he went AWOL for his last year of service. Remember how he spent the bulk of his adult life as a shiftless, drunken frat boy, occasionally finding time to borrow money (in between hushed up DWI arrests) from his daddy’s rich friends, buy an oil company, run it into the ground and still walk away with his shareholders’ money.

Remember how he got his daddy to buy him a governorship and then proceeded to set a new record for murdering people in the gas chamber. Remember how he asserted that it was impossible for any of them to be innocent, despite the scores of death row inmates who have been cleared through DNA evidence. Remember how he abdicated all environmental regulations in Texas to corporate polluters, leaving his state a black, filthy stinkhole.

How about when he villified John McCain during the GOP primaries. Remember that? Remember the draft dodger lying about the war hero?

How about all the times he’s been caught lying through his teeth about Iraq? How about fabricating non-existent “reports” about Iraq’s nuclear capability? For a “Christian” he sure does like to kill people doesn’t he? If he doesn’t have an excuse he’ll make one up.

So go ahead. Recite your tired dittohead cliches about Clinton’s “amorality,” but don’t kid yourself that W is anything more than a dimwitted corporate hand-puppet.

Sorry about the &#@$* double post.

No doubt it was Bush’s dimwitted incompetence that caused his party to do so badly in Tuesday’s elections.

Enough about the ‘obsolete aircraft’. When Bush was flying it, there were several squadrons of them in Vietnam. And the F-102 was not an easy plane to fly, and had a horrific accident rate. Bush’s odds of being killed over his 3500 hours of flying were a hell of a lot higher than Gore’s chances of being killed in Vietnam.

Oh, and Bush volunteered for a combat tour in Vietnam, and was turned down because he hadn’t built up enough flight hours.

How, exactly, does the election prove that Bush is intelligent? Non-intellectual appeals to bigotry, ignorance and fear always work well in elections.

Maybe Bush’s lack of airtime had something to do with the fact that he went fucking AWOL for a year. Or maybe he was just too coked up and drunk to fly a plane

Oh, good lord. Fuck the dramatics; I told you what I think they’re going to try to do, and in the next few weeks you can check what I said to see if I’m full of shit or not.

And when do you start getting specific? Oh, that’s right…pretty much every “lie” Gore was accused of telling has been shown to be a gross exaggeration or distortion by the press. And that’s right, we’ve hashed all that at least 2 or 3 dozen times here. So let’s just go back to making vague accusations and treating them like they are facts.

Don’t think so. (And even if there was any substance to the charge that he is a liar…which there is not… I’d rather have a guy who overstates his involvement in creating the internet than a guy who makes things up out of whole cloth so he can go start a fucking war.)

Now here’s the thing…he wasn’t. That’s what conservatives assumed, that’s what his enemies prayed for. But it didn’t happen. See, the rest of the world doesn’t’ have the manic personality that we do when it comes to sex, and what the rest of the world was laughing at and astonished by was that we were making such a big fucking deal out of it. Look it up.

Oh jesus, this has to go in the anals of hysterical accusations. Hey everybody! Lieu figured it out… Osama came after us because of Monica Lewinsky! (Honestly, I wouldn’t even have thought december would try that…)

Oh and nice try with that big, fat, messy brush: “Failings as a father” what failings would that be? The way he failed so badly as a dad that his daughter graduated Standford with honors? I guess he should have been the good daddy Dubya was, like a pal, I’ll bet. And his girls have been picked up by the cops how many times (that we know of)?

Liar liar pants on fire.

Koko would be proud! You have sat at his knee and learned well, grasshopper! Al Queda, muslim extremist terrorists run by a Saudi and made of of Saudis = Secular, Muslim-hating Iraqi Dictator! Good boy! Now try the next one: War is Peace. War is Peace. Freedom is Slavery. Ignorance is Strength.

You know, I thought I meant “annals”, but now that I think about it…

Jesus Surrealistic Christ. Is Harry Belafonte posting again?

How about “The white man is a slave, and Pikachu is the slavemaster”? That makes about as much sense.

Stop it, you’re making my cheeks hurt!

Who needs the funny pages around here.

Heavens, doesn’t anyone read Orwell anymore?

Pearls before swine, I tell ya.

This is a small part – small, but still a part – of why I continue to vote Republican. This demonizing of the other side by the most zealous of democrats. This offensive assumption that the democratic party has some monopoly on intelligence, tolerance, and morality. This insulting insinuation that to vote as I do means I am stupid, bigoted and afraid. Do you think this makes me look at my party and think, “My God! You’re right! How could I be so blind?” No, it makes me look at your party as a bunch of pseudo-intellectual hysterics who haven’t the wits to see that intelligent people of good will can nevertheless disagree over matters political.

One of the reasons I’m a Republican is because people like STOID and DIOGENES are Democrats. And I encourage them both to continue to post their Chicken-Little prophesies of doom just as obsessively and without respite as they have to date – in STOID’s case, for over two years now. I hope they’re as patronizing and tiresome about it IRL, too. Because I personally can’t think of a more effective recruting tool for the Republican party than to have avowed Democrats post shit like this.

Oh, dear me.

Pot, please meet this kettle.

Stoid, if anyone on this board should NOT be complaining about hysterical blather when it comes to politics, it’s you. You’re the most hysterical, illogical poster on the board when it comes to partisan politics, although Diogenes is building up his resume PDQ.

I’m not a Democrat, I’m a registered independent. I have voted for Democrats, Socialists and Greens. You can’t pin ME down

Well, Rick, when someone makes even the * slightest * case for how my vision of Bush and The Pubbies agenda is grossly mistaken, I’ll consider your point. Until then, you are living in the past and you need to move up to the present.

See, two years ago, when everyone decided that I was being “paranoid” and “hysterical” about Bush, it was safe and easy to brush me off, because there was no evidence.

Now, sadly, that is no longer true.

My fear? Bush would chip away at the separation of church and state. See “Office of Faith Based Initiatives”

My fear? Bush would chip away at our constitutional protections. See John Ashcroft.

My fear? Bush would make war.
See “Iraqi Resolution”

My fear? Bush would make a mess of the economy.
See the deficit.

It would have been worse, except that he could only achieve so much without having more control of the Congress. Now he’s got that control. And it wasn’t hours before he started calling to make his tax cut permanent.

Up to now, all I’ve seen is people telling me I’m hysterical, insane, wrong, and paranoid. About what? How? I’ve laid out precisely what my fears are about, and not a single word has been said in refutation of my assessment. Just the usual name-calling and mocking.

pardon me if I don’t see the light in that.

Regarding lieu’s remark… you have gotta admit, blaming Monica Lewinsky’s lips for 9/11 is pretty damned insane and hysterical, especially by making “The Great Satan” reference, which dates back to 1980!!! Talk about reaching, talk about illogical!

Then there’s Moto’s trying to blame the crushing of Solidarity on Carter and Co. Jesus… it’s the conservatives in this thread who are being illogical and reaching.

I’m not all over the place, making up stuff out of thin air. I’m not blaming Bush for any crappy thing I can think of.

You need to brush the cobwebs outta your head and get up to speed.

Or you can just keep name-calling, if that’s easier.

Oh, and since it’s pretty obvious that no one can reasonably refute my concerns, I’ll let you off the hook and clarify for you what the problem really is.

There is nothing hysterical or paranoid or illogical in what I believe about George Bush and the Republican agenda, as I’ve shown. I understand it clearly, and I do not accuse them falsely.

I simply feel very differently about it than you do. You think it’s a Good Thing. I think it’s a Very Bad Thing. So you mistake our differences of opinion for differences of fact.

You’re welcome.

And lo, a beam of light shone round about me, illuminating my all-encompassing ignorance, and causing much groveling and gnashing of teeth.

Stoid, y’know, it’s entirely possible you’re not correct. To my mind, there are very few things in the world that are more dangerous than a person who is absolutely convinced their opinion is the right one.

For exhibit A, I offer George W. Bush.
