I have seen this used here on the boards and elsewhere and wondered where it came from. Searches here and on Google just showed threads/blogs/etc. where someone posted it, but I can’t seem to find anything on its origin. Anyone know?
The Simpsons.
I heard it first on an episode of the Simpsons. I think the wording is slightly different: “Your theories are intriguing and I would…” I would be surprised if the Simpsons copied it from elsewhere; seems like an original.
In your face, Opus1!
You two only get half credit. How about some context? I know this isn’t CS but I don’t think it would be against the rules by answering the OP by mentioning the episode and in what context the line came up in.
I say this for selfish reasons, I remembered it from the Simpsons but I can’t remember the episode.
It’s from “Mountain of Madness” (italics mine):
Homer: So, Mr. Burns is gonna make us all go on a stupid corporate retreat up in the mountains to learn about teamwork. Which means we’ll have to cancel our plans to hang around here.
Bart: Teamwork is overrated.
Homer: Huh?
Bart: Think about it. I mean, what team was Babe Ruth on? Who knows.
Lisa+Marge: Yankees.
Bart: Sharing is a bunch of bull, too. And helping others. And what’s all this crap I’ve been hearing about tolerance?
Homer: Hmm. Your ideas are intriguing to me and I wish to subscribe to your newsletter.
That said, I wouldn’t be surprised if it’s older than this. I always got the impression that Homer was using an already well-worn phrase when he said this, but I don’t have any hard evidence for it.
I’m sure my Great-Uncle has been using this line for years in RL… judging by some of the things I’ve heard him say.
Thanks for the responses! It probably didn’t help that I didn’t have the wording quite right when doing my searches. I’ve seen a few different versions and wasn’t sure one which was correct.
Now it’d be ": I am intrigued by your theories and would like to subscribe to your Blog".
