I know i am going to be sorry for asking this, but

Are you serious? What do you consider to be a very real problem?

What is the percentage of black men who engage in homosexual activity as compared to the rest of the population as a whole?

Seriously, I’ve heard the phrase “down low”, but never heard that this was an actual problem in the black community.

I am not nearwildheaven and cannot speak for him/her, but I took his/her remarks to mean that the “very real problem” is high levels of homophobia and consequent deep-closeting (“on the down low”) in the black community.

This sort of thing is a problem because, as Antinor01 pointed out, gay men who stay closeted out of fear are more likely to have (a) high-risk sexual behavior, (b) more sexual partners, and (c) female spouses/partners who don’t know about the male partners and thus don’t realize the hazards they’re being exposed to through the “down low” activity.

I agree, though, that this has nothing to do with any perceived shortage of single black men who are genuinely heterosexual, and I’m mystified why it’s claimed that such a shortage exists.

I didn’t realize that there was a noble tradition here of new arrivals providing fresh new insights on contemporary issues, but I’m on it now.
