I am so wound up right now. (Final exams support thread)

Sometimes I miss those days, sometimes not so much!

Good luck guys.

This was me today. :frowning: Crap, crap, crap. I spent three hours doing and re-doing 2 flipping problem for structural geology. It wasn’t a pretty sight. Bah.

I’m finished with all but three of my students. What I tell my students in terms of studying hard science or mathematics is that the key to problem solving is to group problems into categories, and to develop step-by-step personal narratives for each category of problem.

I trip up many students who rely too heavily on pattern recognition and rote memory - if something doesn’t exactly fit their template, they’re frequently at a loss.

I also recommend that students build a set of tool-sheets, even when they’re banned for use - the act of designing helps to form a holistic mnemonic grid that you can use, even when the sheets are off-limits.

That, and study discreet blocks of similar things together.

Howdy, neighbor!

I turned in the research paper for environmental geochemistry Monday, and gave my final presentation in climatology yesterday. I have the geochem final Friday morning, and a final writeup due for groundwater-surface water interactions due Monday.

Oh, and a research group meeting Friday afternoon to talk about the work that I haven’t been doing on my thesis project. Good times!

Ugh. Somehow I know less about Evidence than I knew 8 hours ago. How does that happen?

I’m going into a Restoration literature exam early Friday morning. I hate Restoration literature.

keeps all available fingers and toes crossed for everyone

Just finished my last two finals yesterday, so I’m freeeeeeee! Til January.

I was so busy with papers and projects due the last week of class that I didn’t really study for any of my finals, but I’m a senior so my classes were lit., lit., rhetoric and lit., so I’m not too worried about it.

I am a lot more concerned about the paper that was due in my Modern Lit. class. I was 15 minutes late to the final because I was finishing up the Works Cited page, and I have a meeting scheduled tomorrow to review it with the professor (who is also my advisor) and talk about my grad school applications. I feel like I did a rushed, shitty job with the paper, and being that the semester’s over, there’s nothing I can do to fix it at this late date. So having to go to a meeting to talk about it is really not that helpful or productive. Le sigh.

But still - I’m freeeeee! And sending you all some good juju for your finals.

I finished my last final today, Piano for Non-Majors. Kind of botched some of it, because I haven’t played some of the songs for weeks. I also found out that regular piano for Majors goes way faster than we do. We didn’t even get to the part in our book where it discusses SCALES, but the other class got to playing scales/arpeggios/chords in all keys, along with some other technique stuff that I’ve never done on piano. So I can either spend the whole break practicing to keep up in Piano II next semester, or just take lessons. I haven’t decided.

Hmm… I’ve managed to skate out of all finals except for Ethics. Next Thursday. During the last period available to take them.

My plan is to hit the bar beforehand to make sure I don’t give a damn. Whether I get a 60 or a 100, I’m still coming out of it with an A or an A-.

I finished one three-hour history final… which involved writing four essays. I still have two two-hour finals to go. Politics, I’ll do fine in; it’s theology that’s probably going to be difficult. I did great on everything else, though, so even a mediocre mark probably won’t noticeably lower my average.

The four essays went surprisingly well. Liberal arts is the art of bullshit, and in that, I have a lot of practice.

I did my last final of my long delayed Bachelors on Monday night. I’ve only been taking two courses a semester and one course had a final paper - that I had done a week early. So it wasn’t too bad.

Yes Yes YES!

All my exams are finished, and I didn’t even have too much trouble with the Gen Chem 2 exam.

I needed a 74 to get a B in the class (no way in hell I’m getting an A), and I’m thinking I got a 78, maybe an 80.

whew

Just finished my concrete final. One of the questions said to reference a diagram, but the problem was set up so that the diagram was useless. Blah. I was in there 2.5 hours, but most of the other people were still there when I left so that’s a good sign for a curve.

Writing and Rhetoric: Class over, no Final (I was done in november, I spent three weeks listening to other students presentations  )
Environmental Design Media, aka “Drafting”: Final project is due Tuesday, I have about 5 hours of work left .
Ecology and Design: Final is in a week, and I have the essay questions already.
Economics: Final is Saturday. 40 multiple choice. ZZZzzzz…
"Physics" of Light and Color: Final is in 2 hours. I don’t even need to take it to get an A. I found-out-the-boring-way what “for non-scientists” means in a course description.

The nice thing about the snow is that it’s a great incentive to stay inside and study. The bad thing about the snow is that I suck at studying at home, and keep getting distracted.

I have two exams, just finished one. Was taking that class pass/fail, and I definitely passed, so … hurray! The last exam is Environmental Geoscience, which would be interesting if I wasn’t being forced to learn about it :frowning:

Solid and Hazardous waste last night 7-9pm - Easy A

Organic Chemistry This morning 8-10am - Kill me now. I studied more for this exam, went to more reviews, etc than I have done for any test in my life. I will be lucky to get a B in this class. If I get a C it will be the lowest grade I have gotten since I went back to school.

Chemical Engineering Thermodynamic’s Monday 8AM - Open Book, open notes Print out the homework and you have a template for the test.
Water Quality Monday 7pm - Essay questions - tough but I know it.
Water Treatment Design Tuesday 7pm - Easy

And then, one more semester! Yeah!

Heh. I was Jeeves in the fall of '95… right down to praying for a B in orgo.

Heh, my solid waste prof hasn’t changed his slides since '95

Good luck, Spoons. I took my Crim Pro exam a couple days ago - just remember that the defendant always loses, and you’ll do fine.
