I am trying to find a certain wine

It was a pinot grigio ~ 2005 or so. I know the first part of the name was Borgo. I thought it was Borgo Maddalena, but the label looked different. Also, Borgo Maddalena is only $15. I think I paid $40 or so at the restaurant (I realize they mark up wine at restaurants, but that seems excessive, so must not be the one).

Any ideas?

I’ve never had that wine, but if in fact you’re certain that “Borgo” was the first part of the producer’s name, this is likely your wine. Either you are having trouble remembering the label, or it’s possible they could have changed it in between vintages.

Also, a $15 bottle of wine retail could most certainly go for $40 in a nicer restaurant. In some of the fine dining establishments I’ve worked in, 150-300% markup wasn’t uncommon in some wines.

Already answered, but yep, average markup of wine in restaurants is 2.5 to 4 times the retail price.

And many wineries change the look of their labels/package pretty often.

Sounds like you most likely did find your wine.
