"I appreciate you."

When someone does something for me I often say “Thank you. I appreciate it.” So at first this thread had me worried that I’ve been going through life pissing people off, but I’ve convinced myself it’s different.

“I appreciate you” reminds me of a very awkward roommate situation. Linda’s dad who had missed a lot of her childhood through a combination of workaholism and alcoholism had seen the error of his ways and gotten himself some therapy. And apparently needed EVERYONE to know. He stopped the flow of a comfortable, easy-going conversation among a room full of people and insisted that Linda move her chair directly opposite him so he could make relentless eye contact and hold her hand while he said “Linda, I appreciate you. I appreciate your sense of humor. And Linda I appreciate that you love music and are a good singer. I appreciate, Linda, that you make delicious alfredo sauce. And Linda I appreciate that you …” It went on for what seemed like a long time, and it all seemed so forced and insincere, but there was nothing to be done. I haven’t run across “I appreciate you” in my own experience, but if I ever do I will think of Linda.

I bet you two work answering phones on a suicide hotline. :stuck_out_tongue:

You know, there are too many people on the planet…

Preaching to the choir.

OMG… that was my first thought… suicide hotline run by population control advocates. You would think that they would have come up with that one already.

… and when I was working on the suicide hotline, I was going for high score when management caught on to me… so now I work for poison control. Not nearly as fun.

“So, you want to kill yourself, do you? Have you thought of a method? Drugs? Are you sure of the dosage you’re going to need to do a good job? Okay, well, do a bit more research first, maybe. You don’t want to half-ass this. Have a nice day!”

Cat Whisperer, I just wanted to say that
I appreciate you!

Awwwww…

Wait, are you saying that in the Southern way?
