This afternoon at 3:35 my daughter brough forth her first baby, making me a grandparent for the first time! w00t
She started young. I’m only 45, but it feels pretty cool to be a grandparent already. My kids have always called me Baba. While in Hindustani Baba means father, in Uzbek it means grandfather; in Russian it means woman (and grandmother: babushka). So no matter in what role you think of me, I’m covered. I’m still Baba.
I went and held my tiny grandson, who was still processing the fact that he wasn’t amniotically floating any more. I’m thrilled beyond words. It seems like such a miracle.
how sweet! I’m kinda looking forward to grandmotherhood, but not till my daughter graduates from college, and marries. Them’s the rules. Non negotiable… (I hope)
